Today we’d like to introduce you to Xiaomeng Zhang
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am from Hebei, China, and then came to San Francisco to study illustration. I have been involved in photography and traveling around. I think all my concepts and painting ideas come from nature and movies. After coming to San Francisco, I came into contact with a lot of avant-garde art. In the past few years, I also realized that exposure to different fields would bring great changes to my art. Since then, I have continued to change my style, from traditional art to digital art, from technical art to fusion art. I’m still learning, and maybe one day I’ll find everything that belongs to me in my art.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There were a lot of struggles, too, and no one really had it smooth. My identity and the constant setbacks around me are constantly changing my art, such as the anxiety brought about by my identity and the questioning of my own style caused by constant contact with other artists. What is gained after these struggles is what truly matters.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an illustrator, my field is commercial illustration and graphic design. I won the Writers and Illustrators of the Future Illustrator of the Year award in the past few years, and I am also a member of the New York Society of Illustrators, and my illustrations are also included in A24 Gallery’s INSTGRAM. But what I am most proud of is that I have found my style and what I want to express during this journey, which is what makes my work unique.

The important thing is to broaden your horizons and constantly absorb the trivialities of life. This kind of art is the most touching.
