Today we’d like to introduce you to Wade Cox
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Growing up going camping on a lake with an extremely cool Grandma who water skied with sunglasses on reminding me of Jackie O set the tone for my life that water skiing was cool and what i wanted to do. Like a lot of musicians i never wanted to be anything else.
I was fortunate enough to have the physical tools and the drive to become a national champion by age 12 and start traveling the world by age 16 and way out of my initial dreams or scope of my imagination i became the very best slalom skier in the world. After winning titles in Australia, Austria, Canada, Colombia, England, Italy, Mexico, i was inducted into the US Waterski and Wake Hall of Fame.
Currently i operate a SkiwithWade Tour where guests get waterski coaching a get to demo product, I host a SkiwithWade Podcast, have a guest segment “Wade’s World on The Waterski Broadcating Channel, and I’m an Ambassador for USA WaterSki and Wake.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Getting to the top was such a bigger challenge than i thought. I competed against the GOAT Andy Mapple and digging deeper than i thought i was capable was a trait i didnt know i had but discovered after losing many battles and losing my temper in rages. And that trait was the difference i knew i had but a lot of my competitors lacked.
Then a divorce post competitive days was a challenge i never thought i would battle but forced me to re-establish my life and i couldnt have imagined again that i would live in Venice Beach and be so happy.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a waterkski coach, who happens to be a Hall of Famer and former # 1 in the world, and i created a unique set of drills that i adapted through my professional career and i use humor as my weapon of choice to ease anxiety and create the best learning environment!
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Water skiing is a very mature spor,t Fonzie skied back on Happy Days, and is on a rebound with the TWBC (The Waterski Broadcasting Company) covering many Pro events live on the Web and water skiing possibly making a debut at the L:A Summer Olympics 2028!!! This would be huge for our sport!!!
