Today we’d like to introduce you to Voris Forte.
Hi Voris, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am an artist, lyricist, entertainer, entrepreneur, and visionary. Born and raised in the city of Compton, I turned to rhyming and writing at a young age. At the age of 11, I began writing down my thoughts to express the hardships I experienced in such a misunderstood city. My thoughts turned into rhymes, and my rhymes became my passion…real hip-hop. Fast forward to 2015, I became a graduate of San Francisco State University and defied all odds by obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Electronic Communication and Arts (BECA) with a minor in Business Marketing.
I’m currently a Fatherhood Family Support Specialist; Using maculate networking skills, I’ve since created a buzz for myself within Los Angeles County. Monthly, What Is Your Forte’? showcases have allowed for my platform to elevate and is continuously working to provide a safe space for artists just like myself to unveil their “Forte'”. These showcases are community-based and aimed towards displaying a multitude of talents through different forms of art, expression, music, and performance.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My biggest challenge is finances and receiving valid opportunities or meetings with executives or investors. Student debt has also been a roadblock in elevating my music career. I was rapping on Instagram live with my producer and as I was freestyling and paying homage to Nipsey Hussle; 16 Shots were fired immediately after, leaving an innocent bystander hit, and my vehicle struck twice. Overcoming the obstacle of death and a counted 16 shots fired is definitely the biggest challenge faced in my life that I also had to heal and learn from.
I sacrificed time away and had to rebuild my brand + audience after relocating back to Los Angeles after Graduating College. Lastly, financial freedom from student debt.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Graduating College in 2015 From San Francisco State University. I not only broke generational curses but was the first in my family to attend and Graduate college on Honor Roll.
I am a part of the 6% of African Americans in Compton who have accomplished and earned a Bachelor’s Degree. Being an example and Testimony means everything to me!
I do voice acting, and I enjoy educating the youth as an ongoing Teacher/Behavior Therapist, helping people through my music (Rhythmic Communication), as well as learning more about myself through the exchanges I have with others in every environment, whether that’s a school campus or learning center.
Music means the world to me. Music is me (including my name). If it wasn’t for music, who knows what path I would’ve chosen for myself. I started making music at such a young age that I can’t imagine my life without it.
Hip-Hop Soul: Being creative and versatile is my focus, and I love to jamout, freestyle, and collaborate. I think being able to do all types and styles of music are important, especially the culturally diverse genres and subgenres.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
God: created me a leader, and I take full responsibility for what that means and how I will affect people with my music. My messages inspire with righteous intentions behind it all!
