Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Margarita.
Hi Victoria, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My creative journey started when my grandma taught me how to draw from reference. She had a gorgeous painting of a Folklorico dancer that I drew over and over again. That was my first introduction to art. My second was the discovery of fashion magazines. I clearly remember the first high fashion magazine and being struck by the art of it! That obsession lead to photography and the desire to become a creative director. My hometown is very small, and the surrounding areas don’t have a ton of creative opportunities, so I always knew I needed to leave to grow. I visited Los Angeles with family at 14. We were thrifting at Wasteland on Melrose, and the cashier complimented my weirdo outfit, and it just clicked that this was home.
Between then and now, the internet happened, and I got an early start blogging and sharing my photography there. As much as I loved magazines and wanted to work for them, social media became the magazine of the internet. I got started in social media marketing, and that’s what I do now.
I create content and strategies for brands, small businesses, and my personal endeavors as well. I’ve worked/freelanced for brands like Sugar Bear Hair, The Giving Keys, Galerie.LA, Love Goodly, Earth’s Dew, MOTA Glass, Pipsticks, and more. I also host a podcast for Women in Cannabis called Work Sesh, where I interviewed the dopest women in the industry.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not the smoothest road but it’s always been a clear road. I was always looking for opportunities, seizing what came my way and creating my own, which helped move things along.
But life happens between us, and that’s always been a hard balance. I left a 14-year relationship, moved to L.A. right before the pandemic, and lost 3 dream jobs due to the economy over the last 4 years here; I was also alone with no one in the city yet. A lot of times I had to drop my creative pursuits to just focus on surviving which was hard on the soul. Good times lol
I learned amazing things about myself through those challenges. I’m resilient; I keep my eye on the prize; I’m optimistic when I probably shouldn’t be, and I can work A LOT. I’m more confident going into the unknown now because of overcoming those challenges.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a content creator; I help bring visions to life and grow businesses. I specialize in visuals (video and photography), but I also write and manage account on all platforms. I’m known for promoting small businesses and supporting other creatives. On my podcast, Work Sesh, I give a platform to women in cannabis who are trailblazing the industry with their businesses.
It makes me proud to support others and share others’ stories because so much of my confidence in pursuing my creative career has been from seeing other women thrive. Seeing them fail, recover, pivot, win. It’s so motivating to me. I always say, if you can see her, you can be her. Representation is so important.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Omg, soooo many people to shoutout on my journey! Every friend that let me dress them up and photograph them for my portfolio. Every brand that has reached out to work with me. Every woman who said yes to come on my brand-new unknown podcast and share their story. Every boss who hired me and gave me a chance to learn and grow. My supportive family. I’m super blessed to have crossed paths with and have in my life so many wonderful people.
