Today we’d like to introduce you to USC Musicians Club.
Hi USC Musicians , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
The USC Musicians Club started with a simple idea: create a low-stakes, welcoming space where students of all backgrounds and skill levels could come together to make music onstage. We wanted to break down the pressure that often comes with performing and instead focus on community, collaboration, and having fun making music. Over time, that mission has helped us grow into a vibrant group of musicians, singers, and creatives who support each other, form bands, jam together, and perform regularly. Today, we’re proud to be a space where people can try new things, meet fellow musicians, and keep building a music-filled community at USC.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a perfectly smooth road. Like most student organizations, we’ve had to navigate challenges like keeping consistent attendance, coordinating schedules for busy students, and finding the right spaces and resources to rehearse and perform. Building a community that feels truly welcoming and low-pressure also takes intentional effort, especially as new members join each semester. But each of these challenges has helped us grow, adapt, and get better at what we do—creating a supportive, fun, and inclusive space for making music together.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We’re a student-run community focused on bringing people together to make music in a low-stakes, supportive, and inclusive environment. We specialize in live, collaborative music-making, whether that’s jam sessions, open mics, forming bands, or casual performances, where musicians of all experience levels can get onstage and play. We’re known for being welcoming, beginner-friendly, and community-driven, and for creating consistent opportunities to perform.
We’ve had the chance to perform at the USC Village and at Songfest in Bovard Auditorium, and we also perform every Monday at Tommy’s Place, which has become a core part of our weekly rhythm and community.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to us is creating opportunities for students who aren’t studying music and building an inclusive, low-pressure space for anyone who wants to learn and get more involved in music. We believe music should be accessible to everyone, not just majors or experienced performers. By lowering the barrier to entry and encouraging people to try, perform, and grow, we help more students find confidence, community, and a place in music.
