Today we’d like to introduce you to Ural Garrett
Hi Ural, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a Southern University graduate who has spent the last several years working as a journalist, content curator, storyteller and social media manager. My journey starts with Southern’s Office of Student media where I was the A&E Editor and Managing editor. I covered everything from local news and government to entertainment and tech. Then I started a blog with a friend that eventually allowed me to write for Complex and HipHopDX before I moved up to even higher outlets like MTV, TechRadar, CNN, The Hollywood Reporter, BET and more. During those years, I also managed to work for various companies and organizations run by will.i.am and Colin Kaepernick.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest struggle was the lack of help and mentorship in getting to where I specifically wanted to be. Outside of dealing with that, it was really the lack of people who believed in me as well.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I love telling captivating stories and building narratives for individuals. I can tell all types of stories regardless of topics. That includes music, film, television, gaming, technology, government, social justice and more. I also take a multimedia approach that includes editorial, video, audio and photography as well.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned along my journey is that everyone on earth has a captivating story to tell. It’s my job to get that out of them in a way that makes other people think or consider perspectives.
