Rising Stars: Meet Troy Latham

Today we’d like to introduce you to Troy Latham.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am a graduate of Rowan University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Radio, Film and Television. I was born on July 2, 1992 and dreamed of being an actor from the age of ten. I have worked diligently over the last decade to hone my craft to become a more versatile actor while continuing to learn about all aspects of the filmmaking business. To date, I have several actor credits to my name, including the lead role of Dexter Johnson on the Channel TV One show, For My Man (Episode 1, Season 3). My most recent role was in the favorably reviewed Lord Keep A Ring On It where I reprised my role as Bernard from Lord Put a Ring On It, both which can be seen on Amazon Prime. My first official acting job came in 2012, which changed my life as I realized that this is what I truly want to do professionally.

My mother Cheryl Latham My Father Jerome Latham, who was aware of my aspirations to act, submitted my information for a music video she saw on Film.org. I was offered a part as an extra, but when the lead actor did not work out, I was offered the opportunity of a lifetime to step into that role. That opportunity was all it took to light the fire under me to pursue my dreams. In order to sharpen my skills, I took classes at the Actors Center in Philadelphia, which broadened my skillset and assisted in finding additional opportunities. I currently live in my hometown and am very close with my parents and younger brother Tyrone Latham who is autistic and non-verbal. I have loving and supportive parents, and we are very protective of my brother who is my best friend and biggest motivator. On my downtime, I enjoy working out at the gym, playing basketball and just hanging out with my friends. As my career continues to grow, I am excited at the prospects that are ahead, and I can’t wait to see what life has in store for me next.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve faced many challenges in my life but always seem to make my lemons into lemonade. It is my hard times that really help me focus on my career, during these hard times I’ve had commercials On channel ABC, numerous Billboards internationally with my beautiful daughter Madison Latham. I was casted for a television show with my fiancé Shai. I been staying on top of things During the pandemic, making sure I have at least three auditions a day. I have a couple of upcoming shows a movie on Netflix called Jennie, a documentary Ulysses S Grant, and a film with Eric Roberts and Eliza Roberts Money Run.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have been in the acting field since 2012 when I got my first acting role through Film.org for a music video. This changed my life as I realized that this is what I truly want to do professionally. My most prominent role to date is the leading role for the show For My Man starring as Dexter Johnson on Channel TV One (Episode 1, Season 3). I have starred in Lord Put a Ring On It and its sequel Lord Keep a Ring On It, both which can been seen on Amazon Prime. I have worked behind the scenes as a production assistant on several shoots and continue to learn all aspects on the film industry including camera, audio boom and the digital design. In the future, I hope to work as a casting direction to help other upcoming actors follow their dreams and to have my own agency office. In my downtime, I have a rigorous workout program that I started at 16 years old that combines weights, cardio and a healthy diet regime. I have a first-hand understanding about the challenges of having a family member with autism, but with that comes the experience of pure, unconditional love and joy from that relationship. My brother, who has autism, is my best friend and I have taken my experience with him and used it to work with other children with autistic challenges. I hope to one day work and support an organization that is dedicated to the treatments, therapies and educational efforts that will address the challenges associated with the condition, allowing those living with autism, as well as those who love and support them, to lead fully happy lives.
