Today we’d like to introduce you to Tommi Rose
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and started my career modeling when I was very young. Growing up I had an overabundance of energy, and my parents channeled that into acting classes at a local theatre when I was 3. I immediately fell in love and continued to do musical theatre all throughout my younger years until I moved to TV & film during high school. My very first role in front of the camera was nothing short of a dream, leading the series “In Sanity, FL”, alongside acting legend Burt Reynolds.
Soon after, I joined the cast of Nickelodeon’s “I Am Frankie” as series regular ‘Simone’ in season 2. In that production I sang, learned some seriously cool stunt work, and met some of my favorite costars who I still work with today. After that, I started working on feature films such as “The Girl Who Believes in Miracles” directed by Rich Correll, “Sinister Seduction”, the Tubi original movie “Deadly Cheer Mom” leading opposite the wonderful Mena Suvari, and “A Savannah Haunting”. In 2023 I joined the incredible cast of Netflix Sweet Magnolias season 3 in the role of Olivia Harris and became the voice of “Lonestar” in the Netflix “L.O.L. Surprise!” movies based on the famous L.O.L. dolls.
My most recent projects include lead roles in two western films, one adapted from the book “A Gunfighters Deal”, and the other titled “Florida Wild”, season 4 of Netflix “Sweet Magnolias” and a new series based on the best selling Chase Hughes novels “Phrase Seven”.
I am also a singer/songwriter with six songs on Spotify and more on the way. Music has always intertwined with my TV/film career, which makes the theatre kid in me very happy. Coming soon, one of my original songs will appear on the soundtrack of “A Gunfighters Deal”. Along with my songwriting, I am writing scripts, and had the blessing of directing, producing and starring in my own pilot titled ‘Animal Behavior’ which is now out on youtube. I’ve also been working like crazy on a few things I cant mention just yet, but I am so excited for the world to see.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve always tried to look at obstacles the same way you would look at them in an obstacle course; as a chance to become stronger, a chance to think outside the box, a chance to become something you weren’t yesterday. When I look back, I’m truly grateful for the challenges (even if they felt soul-crushing at the time) because they made me into the artist and human I am now. I always have to remind myself that everything happens for a reason, and on the rare occasion I cant find the reason, I MAKE one. “I need to write a script about this” and “I’m definitely gonna write a song about it” are very common phrases in my vocabulary.
I’ve also been very blessed with an amazing & unwavering support system. I honestly don’t know how I would do any of what I do if it weren’t for my family and friends. They keep me sane.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an actor, singer, songwriter, screenwriter, director, producer and the list seems to expand by the day. I think that’s a big part of what makes me who I am. This unstoppable insuppressible desire to create.
In terms of what I’m most proud of, it’s how I use this restlessness to my advantage. I used to struggle a lot when I was younger with feeling like I thought too much, or felt too much, or cared too much, or WAS too much. My life felt like a never ending, always unsuccessful attempt at trying to tone myself down. I felt like an alien. All the time.
But great art doesn’t come from lukewarm feelings. It comes from passion. And boy, do I have that. I started using all of that “too much” and realized that I had been suppressing my own uniqueness all those years. My superpower.
I do not have a single nonchalant bone in my body, and I don’t know if I ever will. I feel very deeply about everything all of the time. And I use it. I’m proud of that.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My family. I could not be who I am or do what I do without them. My mom drove me to so many castings, helped me with so many auditions, went to so many meetings with me, and truly supported me through every minute of this wild ride. My dad is the reason I love music the way I do, and my brother is the reason I got into screenwriting. Plus they just love me. It’s pretty miraculous what you can accomplish when you have something like that on your side. I will be grateful to them forever for that.
