Rising Stars: Meet Tina Gonzalez of Universal City/Hollywood Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tina Gonzalez.

Hi tina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I grew up in City Terrace or East LA until my mom moved us to Monterey Park, South Pasadena and Texas for a few years. I was married at a very young age and started a family, so I never had the opportunity to experience college life. But I did take classes at night and started working in corporate America. I started out as a secretary, then admin, assistant and executive assistant to manager and then I fell into human resources. I worked in human resources for over 20 years in different industries from fashion to finance to pharmaceutical. In 2016 I met a make up artist who introduced me to lash extensions trained with her fell in love took a course got certified quit my HR job six months later and pursued beauty. I fell in love with skin care modalities and decided beauty was my passion. Right out of Beauty school I worked for European Wax Center to master full body waxing and then at Blinkbar a Lash Studio and in March 2020- 2 weeks before Covid hit I signed a lease rented my own space and decided it was time to build my empire. I built SassyLashesLA in Encino during Covid and never looked back. Craigslist was my best friend. My first location in Encino is still open but home based now and I have just opened my second location in Universal City / Hollywood Hills with an upcoming grand opening on 11/15. I will take everything I’ve learned over the last six years at my first location and apply it to the new location and make it just as great.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I was a single mom determined to work full time, take college classes at night and provide a great life for me and my daughter.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
The beauty industry is $1 billion dollar empire. It can only get better. It’s only going to get better. Everyone is taking care of their skin and everyone loves Lashes.
