Today we’d like to introduce you to This Is A Train Wreck. They and their team shared their story with us below:
This Is A Train Wreck is a skate punk/pop-punk band that started as a solo project with Paul playing a few acoustic sets here and there, after the passing of his good friend. It started as a concept project but morphed into a band detailing the internal struggles of loss.
Sterling was then recruited to play guitar and sing. Somehow someone who booked for the House of Blues Hollywood heard of us. And wanted us to play there, but they wanted more of a band feel.
Johnny and Paul had been in numerous bands prior to This Is A Train Wreck, so if felt only right to bring him in as the bassist. Brandon was brought in to round out the group on drums.
Since then many have contributed to the ongoing entity that is TIATW. 2018 was when Trevor was brought on board. Two years later Teejay joined us on drums.
And I am happy to say that this may be the tightest bunch of people that have been in the band. Everyone brings their own influences and personalities to the band, but I feel like that’s what kind of sets us apart from others.
We are currently working on new music and hope to have some things released in the future.
Our songs touch on subjects such as loss, depression, anxiety and social injustices. It’s hard for us to stay on one particular path. When something angers us or gives us or encourages, we write about it.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Honestly, our biggest struggles have to be our work schedules. We make it work, but even when it comes to recording… it’s like pulling teeth to get us all on the same day. Our Producer, Jonathan (Audio Mech) can attest to that. Yeah, we have some heated moments, which band doesn’t? but we can always get what needs to be done and we leave in good spirits.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We all kind of dabble in different things here and there. Johnny is a Voice Over Actor and his currently is working at Universal Studios Hollywood. Teejay is a small business owner. Deal works in Cleaning and Sanitation. He is also a Bartender at The Canyon Club in Agoura Hills. Trevor is the Social Media Director for a Film Equipment Rental Company in Pacoima. And Paul is a kitchen manager for Okamoto Kitchen, which are a Japanese local Food Truck company.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Don’t pay too much attention to how others are doing. You have to run your own race and do things your way. You’ll get to the destination one day, so enjoy it all. Also, write music that makes you happy, you can’t always please everyone…. So make sure you are satisfied with what you are putting out there.
