Today we’d like to introduce you to Theran Alexander.
Theran, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m Theran — a photographer, videographer, certified drone pilot, and music producer/DJ based in Los Angeles. My creative roots are in music, but over time, visual storytelling became just as essential to how I express myself. Sound and image go hand in hand for me — both are about capturing energy, culture, and moments that matter.
During the pandemic, everything slowed down — gigs stopped, the world hit pause. That forced me to pivot. I leaned deeper into visual work, started investing in gear, and took online courses to sharpen my skills. I taught myself editing, lighting, drone operation — whatever I needed to level up. That time laid the foundation for what would become my business: LEXTOGRAPHY.
LEXTOGRAPHY grew out of a need to create and connect. What started as personal projects turned into real client work — shooting portraits, events, branded content, and aerial visuals. I’ve worked with high-profile clients across different industries, always bringing the same approach: honest, impactful, and rooted in culture.
I’m still evolving, but the goal remains the same — to tell stories that feel real and resonate.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There’s no such thing as a smooth ride — the pitfalls are what help you grow. Over the years, I’ve faced plenty of challenges, whether it was lacking knowledge in certain areas or trying to stand out in a saturated market. What I’ve learned is this: you have to put yourself out there, stay curious, and figure out what makes you connect with your passion. That’s what helps you weather the storms we all face when building something from the ground up.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a photographer, videographer, drone pilot, and music producer/DJ — and I bring all those worlds together under my brand, LEXTOGRAPHY. I specialize in capturing moments that feel raw, cinematic, and culturally rooted. Whether I’m shooting portraits, live events, or aerial footage, my focus is always on storytelling and energy — making sure the visuals have depth and soul.
I’m known for my ability to blend style with substance — my work feels polished but never forced. Clients trust me to make them look their best while keeping things real. I’ve worked across entertainment, lifestyle, architecture, and branded content, always adapting without losing my creative identity.
What I’m most proud of is the fact that I built all of this from scratch — self-taught, self-funded, and rooted in passion. I didn’t wait for permission or the “perfect moment.” I just kept learning, kept creating, and stayed consistent.
What sets me apart is the way I approach the work. I’m not just there to shoot — I’m there to elevate. My background in music gives me a unique sense of rhythm, timing, and mood. And because I’ve been on both sides — as a performer and a documentarian — I know how to capture people in their best light without taking away their authenticity.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I lean heavily on visual resources. My favorite books are photography books — I’m always flipping through them for inspiration. YouTube and Instagram are big for me too; they help me stay sharp, spot trends, and connect with other creatives. As for tools, I’ve got a whole folder of apps, but my go-to’s are Lightroom, Photoshop, and my MPC — they’re essential to both my visual and music work.
