Today we’d like to introduce you to The Carla Project.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
In 2019, my mom passed away and I was left in charge of clearing out the family home she and my father lived in for five decades. That was the first turning point. Then covid hit and like so many people, I stopped working. I had a virtual marketing business that slowed to a halt and I was struggling with feeling lost and purposeless. After spending nearly a year at home and doing lots of boredom shopping, I decided that I wanted to live a more minimalist lifestyle, clean up my act, declutter and simplify my life! I started a blog and eventually started making videos on YouTube never imagining that it would end up becoming a new career. I’m a full-time content creator who does organizing and decluttering projects in my own home and for other people around the world and I LOVE IT!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In some ways, it feels like everything happened quickly but looking back, I can see it took years and years to get to this place. I’d wanted to start a lifestyle brand around home organizing and style for about eight years but thought who the heck am I to start something like that. I’m not an expert and I had all kinds of limiting beliefs like doing that was something for people in their 20s and that it would be impossible to monetize. So instead, I started working in marketing which I really enjoyed but wasn’t my exact passion. It wasn’t until I had nothing to lose and just thought of starting my own blog and YouTube channel as a fun side project that it completely took off. I wasn’t looking at it as a source of income and I think because there was no pressure on it, it allowed me to have fun and do exactly what I wanted and that ultimately helped my channel take off quickly.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have a lifestyle brand called The Carla Project where I create content around decluttering, organizing and simplifying your life. I think what sets me apart is that I am a work in progress. I’m not an organizing guru. I just share what I’m doing to create more order and simplicity in my life so people can relate to my imperfect messy but slowly improving home. I am proud of making YouTube into a full-time source of income. I think it’s less than one percent of channels ever have that happen so it feels amazing. And I am really helping people! I get messages every single day of people thanking me for helping them feel less overwhelmed or inspired to declutter their homes. Plus, I feel like I am getting paid to be myself and improve my life which is really a dream!
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Living in L.A. Being my own boss. Learning new things. Personal development. Having a spiritual practice. Traveling the world. My dog!! Being a 100% accurate representation of my truest self and not needing approval from others. Allowing myself to change, evolve, grow and reinvent myself and my life on my own terms.
