Rising Stars: Meet Thairapy Salon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Thairapy Salon. They and their team share their story with us below:

June 2022 will mark ten years Thairapy Salon has been in business. In 2012 our co-founders, Karmen Aghazarian and Dusty Schlabach rose to the occasion of starting their salon.

How Thairapy came to be is a story of romance and necessity. Karmen and her girlfriends had been working together for many years at a salon in San Marino when one day their boss informed them that she was closing her doors for good. During the same time, Dusty was about to commit to a long-term business relationship with another stylist in DTLA.

As fate would have it, the couple decided to join together in business and start a salon that they could call home for themselves, their clients and for the girlfriends Karmen couldn’t dare to part with.

Ten years later, Thairapy has not only doubled in size and reached clients from all over Southern California, but the focus of the salon has been clearly defined, which is all things Curls!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Running Thairapy Salon has definitely produced many learning experiences for Dusty and Karmen. The biggest curveball that they have faced was getting through and growing through the Covid-19 Pandemic, especially when they were on the cusp of massive growth.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Therapy is known as a Curly Hair Salon and we take great pride in having that title.

What sets us apart is that we specialize in enhancing our client’s natural texture naturally, meaning that we teach our clients to use clean products and we educate them on how to maintain healthy, beautiful hair year-round.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Almost every stylist in our salon is an L.A. native and what gets us smiling is of course that beautiful SoCal sunshine, the city’s diversity, fashion, entertainment, and of course the food!

If we could change anything, it would be that crazy L.A. Traffic!
