Rising Stars: Meet Taylor Williamson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Williamson.

Taylor Williamson

Hi Taylor, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started standup comedy when I was 17 years old in San Diego, California. I moved to LA a year later, in 2004, to attend school at CSU Northridge, but it was really just an excuse to be closer to living my dream. I started performing at small local venues, then began being accepted into legendary venues like The Comedy & Magic Club and The Comedy Store. Budd Friedman seeing me himself making me a regular at his legendary Hollywood Improv club, and giving me my first paid road work was the coolest thing that ever happened to me. When I was 19 years old, I was invited to perform at the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal. The next year, I was lucky enough to get to do two performances on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. Over the next several years, I made small appearances on Comedy Central and MTV. After 10 years in the business, I was down on my luck and auditioned for America’s Got Talent. I ended up getting runner-up, and it changed my life. Now, I get recognized when I go to the coffee shops by nice people either thinking I’m a multi-millionaire now or asking if I quit comedy and now work at Starbucks.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been perfect! My life has been amazing! I’m embarrassed for anyone who doesn’t feel the same!!! Hashtag David Goggins!!! Also, I’m being silly, and it’s been very hard many, many times. But I learned lessons from all the hardships, and it made me who I am today and I’m grateful for being an artist cause all the hard times become material for standup, writing, and therapy haha.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a standup comedian. I am probably best known for being runner-up on America’s Got Talent. I recently released my favorite thing I’ve ever done, my standup special “Taylor Williamson: Live at The Comedy Store.” It’s available free on my YouTube channel! I’ve sold several TV shows and had some pilots that no one has ever seen, and I hope to make one soon that everyone sees and likes a lot so I can buy a boat with an elevator in it and give my 4-pound chihuahua the life she deserves!

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Put your backbone where your wishbone is! My main thing I really would like to promote is my new standup comedy special “Taylor Williamson: Live at The Comedy Store” free on my YouTube and I’ll also be doing a big silly interactive comedy show at The Elysian Theater May 12 as part of the Netflix is a Joke Festival called “Talk to Strangers”. Details on my website. Thank you!
