Today we’d like to introduce you to Tassiana Laurre
Hi Tassiana, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
While studying at Strate, école de design, and Politecnico di Milano, where I earned my Master’s degree, I began my design journey in 2019 when I opened my studio during first year of studies. My skills at the time were focused on graphic design, so I started there. From there I worked for skincare and perfumery companies, notably Italian brand Doctor G, for whom I did the art direction and logo design. I led the creative direction of My Exclusive Collection, Jean Paul Guerlain’s legacy, and designed the perfumery’s bottle and logo.
In the interior design realm, I worked for renowned designers such as Marc Ange, where I contributed to the Mandarin Oriental Residences’ restaurant in Beverly Hills – and Kelly Wearstler – where I got to work on residential and commercial projects, such as the Ulla Johnson luxury fashion store in Los Angeles.
I recently undertook interior design projects, and recently finished a residence in the French Riviera. I’m currently based in Los Angeles, where I’m developing my furniture line.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Design wasn’t necessarily an innate path. My high school never really mentioned more creative careers, so I only discovered design in my last year of high school. When I found out about it however, it felt right – the career I was looking for.
Having my studio came with its own set of challenges. There are a lot of things no one teaches you about in university that are vital to making it in the business, so there was some trial and error. I was lucky to learn amongst immensely talented individuals who have taught me a lot. And I continue to learn so much every day.
While any creative path has its hurdles, they push me to grow and elevate my craft.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At the tail end of 2020 I was called in to help My Exclusive Collection create the image that would represent them to the world. A perfume library of fragrances created by iconic perfumer Jean-Paul Guerlain, My Exclusive Collection was looking to establish their identity as a French Haute Parfumerie marked by a rich olfactory heritage of class and elegance– it was such a fantastic project to be a part of. Drawing inspiration from Guerlain’s legacy, I looked to the famous perfumer’s memories, history and permanent quest for excellence for inspiration.
I recently completed a residential project on the Côte d’Azur through my studio, it’s a really lovely Mediterranean apartment filled with light and materiality evocative of the French Riviera, and the simplicity and joie de vivre of that region. I took inspiration from a rich tradition of artistry and craftsmanship unique to its location in the south of France. The design is also influenced by the historical grandeur of the region’s elegant homes, and glamorous aura.
My journey is rooted in a childhood fascination with art and architecture, and guided by my motto, “Innovate with Purpose, Design with Soul.” My love for interiors, nurtured by my grandmother’s passion for antiquing, fuels my constant exploration and self-discovery through design. I never shy away from a challenge, and I love being on the cutting-edge of innovation and trends. I take time to learn what new processes and materials are emerging to bring the best possible outcome to my work.
I’m also very excited as my furniture line is currently under production, and will be available in 2025. It’s a brand new chapter for my studio and I can’t wait to share more.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
It’s key to always be curious about the new processes and tools available in our field… I’ve also loved exploring AI and how it can accelerate our processes and it’s great for research. I think being afraid of change and innovation puts you at risk in the industry.
Learning from craftsmen and vendors is also key. I never assume I know it all, and they’re always bringing forward key tips in methods when it comes to bringing ideas to life and production.
Design is a constant journey of exploration and self-discovery.
