Today we’d like to introduce you to Susy Caracas.
Hi Susy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Thank you for the opportunity to share my story! My journey into the world of maternal and newborn care began almost two decades ago, inspired by my own experience as a mom. Becoming a mother opened my heart and my eyes to how much support families truly need during those first fragile weeks, not just with the baby, but emotionally and physically, too.
Over the years, I became passionate about helping parents feel confident and cared for during the postpartum stage. That passion led me to earn certifications as a Postpartum Doula, Lactation Educator, and Newborn Care Specialist, and now I’m continuing my education by working toward certifications in Perinatal Mental Health and as a Doula Specialist in the NICU. Every step of this journey has helped me better understand how to support families through both joyful and challenging beginnings.
Eventually, I founded Baby & Doula Care Team, a professional and nurturing agency that connects families with certified doulas and newborn care specialists across California. My goal has always been to create a team that leads with heart, offering evidence-based care, empathy, and practical support for new parents adjusting to life with their baby.
Today, I feel grateful to be doing what I love, supporting mothers, mentoring other caregivers, and reminding families that they don’t have to go through this season alone.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road but every challenge has helped shape who I am today. When I started, I was a single mom raising two kids while trying to build a career in a field that not everyone understood yet. There were times when I doubted myself, especially as I worked long nights caring for newborns and then studied during the day to earn my certifications.
Another challenge has been finding balance between caring for families, growing my business, and still taking care of myself. But those experiences taught me the importance of community and self-care, two things I now emphasize with every parent and doula I mentor.
Every struggle came with a lesson, patience, resilience, and faith. Looking back, I’m grateful for every obstacle, because they’ve made my purpose even clearer: to support families with compassion and to remind mothers that they are never alone in this journey.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My work centers on supporting families during one of the most important and sometimes most overwhelming seasons of their lives: the transition into parenthood. I’m a Certified Postpartum Doula, Certified Lactation Educator, and Certified Newborn Care Specialist, and I’m currently completing my certification in Perinatal Mental Health to continue expanding the ways I can support mothers emotionally and physical.
As the Founder and CEO of Baby & Doula Care Team, I guide new parents through those early weeks at home, helping them feel confident, rested, and connected with their baby. Our agency specializes in postpartum recovery, newborn care, feeding support, and sleep education, always combining evidence-based information with gentle emotional care.
In the last seven months, Baby & Doula Care Team has continued to grow beautifully, especially with the recent addition of my daughter, Andrea Navarrete, who is completing her PhD in Developmental Biology at Stanford University and now serves as our Operations Manager and Doula Adviser. Her strong scientific background and compassionate heart bring a fresh perspective to our mission, supporting families with both knowledge and genuine care.
Our agency is also proud to be approved as a Blue Dot Project provider through Postpartum Support International (PSI) a recognition that reflects our deep commitment to supporting maternal mental health and emotional well-being. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of supporting families from many different backgrounds, including professional athletes and high-profile clients, who trust our team for our confidentiality, professionalism, and heart-centered approach.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is working with integrity, compassion, and faith in everything I do. I truly believe that God has called me to serve families during one of the most tender and transformative seasons of their lives. Every time I enter a home, I’m reminded that this work is sacred, it’s about caring not only for babies but also for the hearts of the parents.
Through Baby & Doula Care Team, my goal is to create a safe, nurturing space where every family feels respected, supported, and understood. For me, ethical care means being honest, empathetic, and honoring each family’s unique values and story.
True success, for me, is not measured by numbers or titles, it’s found in those quiet moments of peace when a mother feels calm, a baby rests safely, and a family feels loved and supported. Those same feelings of calm and gratitude come to me when I walk along the California coast collecting sea glass, each piece a reminder that beauty can be found in what’s been shaped by time, patience, and grace. My faith reminds me every day that this is not just my profession, it’s my purpose.
