Rising Stars: Meet Steve Villegas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Steve Villegas.

Hi Steve, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in the City of Boyle Heights/Los Angeles and truthfully I believe my journey began about a year after graduating high school having the courage to go after a dream I had in mind as a kid into becoming an Actor being inspired by Actors such as Jean-Claude Van Damme, Sylvester Stallone, Denzel Washington & Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson along the way just to name a few, but at first I had no knowledge about the industry nor how to get started. So a friend of mine at the time introduced me to a friend of his who had been somewhat involved in the Acting World who then gave me more information about Casting Services and how to get started on signing up to becoming an extra on TV Shows/Movies. Working as an extra for about 5 years off and on gave me the experience to see how film productions run behind the scenes & one day I was booked as a Featured Extra where I had (No Lines) but my character was the right hand man for one of the Main Actors on the Film who I then later became very close to after production ended. He goes by the name of Noel Gugliemi. About 6 months after, he then later introduced to an Agent he once was represented by when he first started in the Industry. From that point on, my Agent took me in as her client and began sending me out to Auditions where I then began booking roles on Netflix’s Original Series “On My Block” & hit TV Shows such as “S.W.A.T” on CBS which also led to booking other Film Projects.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
From my experience, at the beginning the road can be kind of rough if at times you don’t believe in yourself and have doubts here and there on whether or not if it’s worthy for you to even continue.

I come from a family where having a dream on becoming an Actor was not something I should consider being part of my agenda, due to the fact that it’s not a promising career, so growing up I did question myself about it and didn’t have much confidence within myself until I somehow, someway overcame the feeling of not being afraid to fail and to go ahead and give it a try, chase the dream, and sure enough, I went for it and Accomplished a lot along the way proving to my family that anything is possible, but MOST IMPORTANTLY, I was able to prove it to MYSELF that if you put your heart and soul into it anything, ANYTHING can be accomplished… So now I’m still here continuing my Journey in always trying to Succeed any new Challenges that come along my way.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Well, acting has always been a passion of mine ever since I got started… I’ve learned so much along the way to the point where I now want to Direct, although I haven’t gotten there yet, but in the meantime I have began producing along side with my team at 4ways Entertainment. 4ways is a Production Company I’m part of and so far we’ve put together 2 Award Winning Short Films titled “Slipping Into Darkness” & “In Broad Daylight” where I play an L.A. Sheriff’s Deputy that is faced with a Life-Altering decision.

What I’m most known for, is from Netflix’s Show “On My Block” as my Character of “Sad Eyes” & CBS “S.W.A.T” as my Character of “Marcos”. I’ve been a Recurring Character on both shows since “2017” and I’m VERY PROUD to say that I am so Thankful to both Productions for always believing in me and the Performances I bring to the show. That itself keeps me Motivated to keep on pushing forward.

What I’m most proud of is that I overcame my Fears of Failing and that’s a Rewarding Accomplishment to me because I feel that it has helped me to be more open minded into creating Wonderful and Beautiful Relationships with others in the Business… from other Actors to Producers / Director’s / Music Artist and so on.

What were you like growing up?
As a kid I was very quiet and somewhat shy, very observant I would like to say but with friends and family I was a little more talkative. I was very athletic and into sports, basketball being one of my favorite sports to play in a team at the Evergreen Recreational Center in the City of Boyle Heights/Los Angeles for many years in my Childhood Life.

Growing up in Boyle Heights can also have its Challenges since one can easily be influenced into joining Gangs, but luckily I only went so far with it and understood what the outcome of my Life could have been if I had continued Hanging around with friends involved in the Gang Life at the time who sadly aren’t here today.

However, as years went by, getting into High School, I then started to put more interest into Weight Lifting and Boxing making it a habit till this day into staying Physically Healthy as much as possible with the mindset of NEVER giving up and Consistency being a very important tool if you want to Achieve any goals in Life.
