Today we’d like to introduce you to Sonia Monroy.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am Sonia Monroy, a named actress, singer, TV host from Spain, I start my acting career at the edge of six. My parents both were actors, I moved to LA in 2009 after my father died in my arms. His last words were… ‘Promise me that after I’ll leave, you will go to LA to pursuing your dreams” and was what I did. Was so hard to start from the beginning “again a career in Los Angeles having had a huge career in my country but no want know me here then I had to do it. I had to learn English from the beginning was so hard been rejected from many talent agencies because of my English and accent, was hard to live so many bad situations. I felt alone, sad, I cried so many times but I never tell my downs to my family, I am a strong woman and my life in some moments here in Los Angeles is so difficult but I always find the way to keep going. I promised to my father that I would never give up to pursue my dream of being a Hollywood Star and I will not stop until I achieve it.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
For me, the most difficult thing about living in Los Angeles was without a doubt getting away from my family, in special my mother, we were very close, although every summer I went to take care of her, it was very painful every time I left Spain again. Now she rests in peace with my father and my two brothers 🙁
Talking about work, it is very disappointing that as a Latina actress having an accent, the characters for Latinas are most of the time emigrants, the mother who takes care of the children and house or the lady who cleans. I like to play police roles, detectives, also roles like Angelina Jolie on Girl Interrupted, I like do superheroes. Roles in actions movies are my favorite, one of my dreams is to work with Tom Cruise in Impossible Mission
I am the CEO of Monroy Films Productions. I am a scriptwriter also. I produced, writer, directed and lead my own comedy named “My Hollywood Dream Sucks”. It’s about my REAL life when I came here because since I moved to Los Angeles a lot of things happened to me, then I was writing about all of them and filmed. At this moment you can see it on my youtube channel “Sonia Hollywood” but I hope one day would be on Netflix or in Television. Also, I am finishing a Thriller “The Chosen”. My next project would be a documentary about my mom and her terrible Alzheimer’s. I never stop doing my own projects and trying to find investors to film them.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an actress, director, writer, singer and TV host. At this moment, I am focused on my acting career.
What does success mean to you?
Success is the recognition of your work. Success for me is feeling great with what you do, what will make you wake up in the morning and go to bed at night and feel content and whole as a person.
Those who maintain their success are those who have perseverance and are not affected by what others think. The best part is that you define your success, and you can change that definition. The best way to be truly successful, you must decide what that would look like for you. Outside influences (money, job title, social standing, etc.) may contribute to your version of success, but those outside factors should not be the only ones.
You should always keep your feet on the ground and keep working.
