Today we’d like to introduce you to Sienna Linda.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
First, I want to take a moment to say thank you for allowing me the opportunity to share a little bit about myself and my business. The brand, Unruly Orchid, started by accident during the summer of 2015 when I found myself disappointed with the unflattering and limited swimsuit options available to curvy and plus size women. I went home, started sketching designs for my ideal swimsuit, shopped for fabric, and found a talented seamstress to bring my sketches to life. I posted a picture in my new swimsuit and with so many supportive friends, I decided to start selling them. As a small business I had to model and create content for my brand because I couldn’t afford anyone to do it, and naturally, those turned into passions which I’m currently pursuing here in Los Angeles. From a young age I’ve known part of my purpose is to spread positivity and encourage young girls and women to accept themselves, so it’s been a blessing to work as a curve model and to own an inclusive brand that supports different body shapes, types and sizes.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Definitely not, there have been so many obstacles and learning curves along the way. There are times where you doubt yourself or question your ability, but you just have to remain positive, present and persistent when chasing after your passions. As far as modeling, I’ve had a difficult time getting signed because I am short. And as far as business, sometimes it’s difficult because I don’t make as many sales as I thought I would, have creative blocks when trying to design something new and fresh, or simply have a hard time figuring out a technical issue with my website. It can be so frustrating but at the same time I’m constantly pushing myself to grow and learn, plus the love I get from my customers makes it all worthwhile. I love being an entrepreneur and I’m grateful to wake up in the morning, set my own schedule, and do something I love. It hasn’t always been smooth but if it was super easy, I probably wouldn’t appreciate the journey as much. I’m pushing boundaries and overcoming obstacles and hopefully inspiring others.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As simply put, I am a multi-faceted creative. I enjoy designing women’s clothing, modeling, brainstorming photoshoot concepts, creating content on my Instagram, acting, recording YouTube videos, and inspiring women to feel the freedom of self-acceptance. I have a big heart and I think people are naturally drawn to me because they feel seen. I allow myself to be a vessel for God to work through in order to touch as many lives as possible. I want to give love, I want to give insight, I want to give courage.
What are your plans for the future?
I’m currently designing my Spring/Summer 2021 collections, working on a project with Elizabeth Hilfiger and continuing my acting classes. I would like to relaunch my podcast and YouTube channel during Summer 2021 as well. I’m also working on advocating myself as a biracial, short, curve model and manifesting multiple opportunities for 2021. I’m excited about what’s in store and am grateful to live in Los Angeles, which is such a beautiful city full of ambitious and like-minded individuals. I feel like the energy in the city keeps me tapped in and in a constant state of evolution.
