Today we’d like to introduce you to Shelice Golding.
Hi Shelly, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was raised by a strong black woman who equipped me with the tools I need to go through life. As a child even though dysfunction was present, My mother provided a good life for her children by herself. I started my business The Queen Effect Inc. about four years ago after I realized what myself and other women were dealing with in bad relationships.
It bothered me that women didn’t know they deserved better. It bothered me that they didn’t know they were Queens and royalty. So, I started a movement just for women that could uplift, encourage and strengthen the backbones of our communities.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In September of 2018 my Angel my mother had been diagnosed with stage one breast cancer. Cancer had unfortunately cut my grandmother’s life short so our family initially went in to a panic. It was one of the most hardest times of my life. I would do homework and studying while my mother was getting radiation in the other room at the center. She made the choice to get a lumpectomy and has been full of good health and life ever since. She is a STRONG woman who inspires me show up and fight every single day. I am grateful that God has given her more time to love on us while we love on her!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I do motivational speaking at my college and encouraging words for different events and organizations. I am also the friend that will encourage you and love you back to life. My friends call me when they are going through something and I take pride in being a listening ear. I am most proud of getting my science and arts degree. I am elated that I am the first in my family to earn a college degree. At one point, I didn’t even believe college was for me and here I am contemplating whether I want my master’s. What sets me apart from others is my tenacity and unrelenting determination to reach what I call success.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I have been blessed to have many people who prayed and are still praying for me. My biggest inspiration is my mother Lorna Reynolds, she taught me that the sky is not even the limit. She instilled in me Godly principles that I will never forget. My girls always got me…you know who you are. My Dad Donald Martin who stepped in and help raise me ever since I was seven years old, he is a God send. He is there every step of the way. To my Aunty “in love” Pastor Belinda Knox who holds me accountable and ensures that I do not let my business die, Thank you for being You. I would also like to thank Dr. Diane Lazare who gave me my first formal interview as a rising leader and believing in my vision. Lastly, my Brother Stephen Young who always has my back and protects me. He is the best big brother a girl could ask for.
