Rising Stars: Meet Seth Harding

Today we’re excited to be connecting with Seth Harding again. If you haven’t already, we suggest you check out our prior conversation with them here.

Seth, always such a pleasure connecting with you and thank you for sharing your stories, insights and inspiring messages with our community. We’re looking forward to getting the download and what you have been up to since our last interview, but first can you briefly introduce yourself to folks who might have missed the prior conversation.
Seth: We are Madcap Balloons!! We are a full service balloon entertainment and decorative company whose goal is to spread joy and awe one balloon at a time. Whether it is once of our amazing balloon twisters or our fantastical balloon sculptures, we seek to blow away (pun intended) expectations when it comes to any balloon-centric service.

Theresa: We are a family-owned, small business that have been around for 13 years. We create memorable experiences for your events with our balloon designs. It is our mission to remind everyone that there is no occasion too small to enjoy. Every day is a gift and we want to celebrate anything and everything with everyone.

Seth: I think one of things that sets us apart is most of our team is family. There’s a certain level of camaraderie and more importantly pride I feel when I get to sing the praises of my talented wife and the team we have assembled. There’s a joy in being able to do what we do with the people we love most in the world… and I would like to think that it comes through in our work.

Theresa: Teamwork certainly makes the dreamwork! Working alongside loved ones is such a special atmosphere. There is a lot of love and care that goes into each event and creation.

Awesome, so we reached out because we wanted to hear all about what you have been up to since we last connected.
Theresa: Since our last interview. We are so happy to report we have expanded the decor side of our business. During the pandemic, events everywhere were shut down and we could no longer perform in public. We could easily have lost our company and had to pivot really quickly on our options. In the very early days of lockdown, we were part of a campaign called “One Million Bubbles” where we put large displays of Balloons in front of our residence to cheer up our neighborhood. This became really popular, and we realized this gave others hope and joy during an uncertain time. This revelation opened our eyes to really build our decor side of our business. Despite social distancing, we found that folks still wanted to celebrate. It made us think of alternatives to deliver custom and elaborate designs for outdoor festivities.

Seth: We have also had the opportunity to work on several TV shows and a movie. It’s something we hope to get the possibility to pursue more in the future. There’s something very impermanent and transitory about doing events, but getting the chance to work on film… it gives us something to always be able to reference and look back on.

Theresa: Being featured on 102.7 KIIS FM and Access Hollywood have been a life-changing and staple part of my career. I am in awe that we were even considered! Immensely honored to haven been portrayed and interviewed with such wonderful hosts! Another fun thing we have accomplished from our bucket list is doing a Giant Balloon Drop. This was done at the Kia Forum for the King’s of Leons concert! That was a blast! This was a full circle moment for me as I had pursued music in my early years. Never would have thought that balloons would take me to such an iconic venues and meet such professionals. We would love to continue to add meet more amazing people and display our work at cool venues.

Seth: I’ve been working with balloons on and off for nearly 25 years. However long one has worked on their craft, industry trends evolve, and it is important to embrace growth through education and staying connected to the community on both a professional and personal level. Attending trainings and conventions is key to our business. It has challenged us to grow as artists and continue to provide a variety of creative options to our clients.

We also want to give folks a chance to get to know you a bit better so we’ve prepared a fun lightning round of questions. Ready?

Seth: EXPANSION! We moved into a new balloon studio last year, that will be dedicated to our business. It has been a bit of a process and we look to have it finally organized and up and running shortly. We also will be looking for new team members to help us grow before the end of the year, which is always exciting.

Theresa: I am excited to see what lies ahead in our Balloon journey. Life can be filled with ups and certainly downs and it is so humbling to be welcomed into other’s celebrations and make them smile. It can be a giant room full of balloons or a tiny classic balloon dog…knowing that a moment of joy was created just makes what we do so rewarding. Looking forward to more events and opportunities to spread even more happiness!
