Rising Stars: Meet Scott Frenzel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Frenzel.

Hi Scott, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
Hi! I’m Scott, I make short-form nostalgic comedy videos, life hacks, and college tip content on YouTube, TikTok Instagram, Pinterest, and Facebook (wherever they’ll have me). I was working at a restaurant when the pandemic started and then all of a sudden, I was stuck at home. I had come to LA originally to do something in entertainment, and in the pandemic, I had all the time in the world so it felt like a “now or never” moment to get started. I downloaded TikTok and started making some videos (which looking back were very bad) but I found my groove, and 2 million followers and nearly a billion views later, it all worked out.

I went a full-time content creator in July of 2021 which was a very scary step, but I figured, without a little risk, you’ll never grow!

Around January 2022, my close friend Holly Auna, another amazing content creator, told me I needed to start posting on YouTube Shorts and to be patient and give it some time. It was extremely low views for three months, posting two videos a day. I was ready to give up, but Holly kept encouraging me. Then finally, one day in April I woke up and it wasn’t just one video going viral, it was all of them. I couldn’t believe it. I’ve now grown a wonderful community on YouTube and I love them so much. That audience, more than any other platform, really rides for their favorite creators, they celebrate the victories with you and cheer you on in your lowest lows. And to think, I would have never had that audience without Holly’s encouragement.

My next big frontier is music, I’ve been writing with some extremely talented songwriters and producers and I’m so excited about what we’re putting together. Stay tuned.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road, similar to the ice cream, has been rocky. That’s mostly a joke, in the crazy world of entertainment, especially social media, I pride myself on staying as level-headed and “zen” as possible. In this job, waves are going to happen, it’s your choice if you’re going to ride them or drown.

My first big struggle was my first “dip” on TikTok. I remember. when I was just starting out, having a couple of videos in a row hitting 100,000 views, and feeling on top of the world. Then the next day I put out a video and…. crickets. Then the next day… crickets and the next… crickets. That may seem dramatic, but I remember feeling like I had this thing, this great potential, that could make all my dreams come true if I could keep it up, but it was slipping through my fingers and I didn’t know what to do. Consistency truly is the key and I just kept at it and then new videos started to do well again. I think that moment happens for any up-and-coming creator and it’s the question of if you’re going to stick with it through the slumps when you’re not getting that sugar high from seeing the views rack up, or if you’re going to put your tail between your legs and quit.

You have to have a little perspective sometimes, no one wants to open these apps and see the same six faces every time. You need to give other people their time in the spotlight sometimes, but if you keep with it, your time will come again.

Now being on multiple platforms, it feels a little more consistent, when TikTok is down, YouTube is up, and vice versa, so it feels a little more stable. However, for the most part, I try to just enjoy the process of creating content and let the views be what they may be.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I make little bite-sized videos which I think is a lot more work than you realize. I’m a one-man filming operation (unless I bribe a friend to hold the camera), so I script, film, edit – everything, every day. I’m grateful for TikTok because I think of it as a creative Bootcamp. You’re constantly getting to put out concepts, flex your creative muscles, and get immediate feedback. It’s funny to watch my first few months of videos and see how far I’ve come. What sets me apart? I think for any creative today, it’s about building a brand.

Especially my life hack and college content, yes technically anyone could tell you the same hack, but I’ve infused just enough of my personality and humor into it to make it a “Scott Frenzel” video, or at least that’s what I always aim to do. What am I most proud of? Probably the videos that have a little hidden message under the jokes and comedy. I think a lot of my videos just seem funny and silly on the surface, but if you dig a little deeper you’ll see little pieces of my heart in each one.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
You can support me by watching my videos and watching the ads that play before them all the way through – I need to eat after all! Just kidding!

Just engaging with my content means the world to me, especially the videos where I step out of my comfort zone a bit. To collaborate with me? Reach out!! People are surprised sometimes when I respond to DMs, I watch those things like a hawk, you never know who’s gonna pop in.
