Rising Stars: Meet Samantha Gonsalves

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Gonsalves.

Hi Samantha, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
(Aka Samantha J) Originally from Jamaica. Born and raised. Grew up in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. When I was 15, I went to a talent search at an agency and they accepted me after having me perform a song while they recorded on a video camera. From there I was introduced to a producer who had me record a few songs and introduced me to who is now my ex-manager. I released my first single along with a music video and it quickly blew up and became a hit all over the world in 2013.

Fast forward to now, I’ve released my latest single called Push Ya Luck along with a high-quality music video and much more lined up to release this new year. Moved to LA over six years ago.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve had many obstacles, including going through having to change the team around me… but at the end of it all, I have so much knowledge from experience now.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a singer/songwriter from Jamaica. My music is a fusion of dancehall reggae pop music, which is quite unique along with my sound. I’m known for bringing that island flavor to everything I touch. I’m a mom of a bouncing two years old baby boy who got a cameo in my music video titled Big Fat Benz. Worked with great producers such as Red One, Jim Jonsin, Jr Rottem, Supa Dups, Jerry Wonda, etc. Right now the projects I’m working on are with AnkaMusic.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Preparation+Opportunity=success I’ve learned to stay ready, stay on the grind, so when something big is happening you are ready for it. This is my favorite saying.
