Rising Stars: Meet Sage X Price of Los Angeles, CA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sage X Price

Hi Sage, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My mom was a part-time singer, my pops is a musician, and my dad’s side of the family was all artists so art and music was always around me. I grew up going to studios with my dad so I was involved with making music to some degree. In middle school, I joined choir and musical theatre then when I was15 years old, I started to produce and engineer. Within that year I sold my first beat which was sick! Then when I turned 16 I left high school and moved to Texas to further pursue music. While in Texas, I honed my craft, learned how to make a business out of it, and developed confidence in myself as a producer and engineer. After spending about a year there, I moved to LA. From ages 16-18, I spent damn near every day doing sessions. At 18 years old, I got my first major placement with the NBA then covid hit, so I moved back home to Orange County. Once things died down, I moved back to LA into an artist commune with 13 other people. While living there, I started to write my own songs. I had made a song called “Seasons,” but I knew I wasn’t good enough yet, so I just focused on production. A couple of years went by and one day my dad sent me a track to do a chorus on. That song, for whatever reason, opened this new well of creativity. Writing had become so much easier, and melodies were flowing. We both knew it was time for me to start recording. I pretty much immediately got into the studio and recorded 11 songs in 4 or 5 months. Before I even had music out, my friend Tony22 brought me on tour and helped get my name out there a lot. I dropped my first track in Oct. 2023 and have continued to drop monthly since then!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I kind of look at my producing & engineering career separately from my solo artistry. When it comes to Sage X Price, I couldn’t be happier with how well things have gone. I’ve been able to tour, build a real life fanbase land placements with big companies, and I’ve got a song with one of my favorite artists Westside Boogie. However, my car did get broken into and EVERYTHING got stolen, but besides that, it’s been a smooth ride so far. As for production and engineering, I’ve had my struggles for sure, but nothing out of the ordinary of what other people in that field have to deal with. People lagging on payment, the artist being hard to work with, all of that stuff, ya know?

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a singer and rapper who also produces and engineers. I don’t know if there’s anything that I necessarily specialize in, but I hold confidence in my engineering prowess as well as my ability to come up with melodies and have a fast workflow. I’d say I’m most proud of my progress with music. I feel like a lot of people don’t know this, but every song that you hear is literally the beginning of my journey with music. When I started recording these songs about a year before I released them, it was literally my FIRST time fully writing and recording music. So, to see how well it’s been received has been affirming. I think what sets me apart is my work ethic. Music is the one and only thing I want to do and it’s the only thing I’m good at. So when it comes to girlfriends, partying, anything that distracts me I just stay away from it.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
LA has the best weather, being able to have the beach and mountains in our city is awesome, people who are actually from LA are some of the coolest people you’ll meet, and LA really matured me and taught me how to live on my own. I’d say what I like least is the general artist culture of LA (as of right now) it feels like a lot of venues are pay to play, people don’t really come outside anymore, and I think some people take far too much pride in being from LA.
