Rising Stars: Meet Rudy Salgado

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rudy Salgado.

Hi Rudy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m a photographer/content creator born and raised in Los Angeles. I studied photography and filmmaking in college but majored in Psychology and Social Behavior at UC Irvine. I have always taken an interest in art. I started with sketching and then shifted to photography after buying my first digital camera in high school (Casio EXILIM). That interest increased after attending photography workshops at Inner-City Arts and it was then solidified after attending photography meet-ups with a group called Street Meet LA. Slowly that interest has shifted from a hobby to a career that I enjoy.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have definitely been obstacles along the way. The most difficult obstacle was building credibility for my work. As I began to develop an interest in portrait photography, I would reach out to models to collaborate. But understandably, I wasn’t always given a chance because my portfolio, experience, and credibility wasn’t there. When trying to break into other genres of photography, I have been met with similar problems. Although I had portraits to show my skills, I didn’t have genre-specific photos like graduation or wedding photos. So, I’ve had to find ways to continue to develop my skills, gain experience, and put myself in situations where I’m given the chance to prove myself. I am now more experienced in photographing a variety of categories: products, fashion, graduations, weddings, red-carpet events, award shows, fashion runways, concerts and more.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I create photography tutorials and photography-related content on Tiktok and YouTube. I’m always happy to help other photographers, especially those just starting out. I am doing more video work these days and so I’m filming at more events and have also done music videos. This year I also photographed numerous events, especially fashion runway shows at Los Angeles Fashion Week by A N4XT Experience and LAFW powered by Art Hearts Fashion.
