Rising Stars: Meet Rosangel Conde

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosangel Conde.

Hi Rosangel, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Growing up, I first discovered my lifelong penchant for music during elementary school. Encouraged by my parents to sing, I quickly fell in love with the process of making quality music and as early as ten years old, I began studying the piano and guitar. From then on, music remained a top priority in my life as I went on to become a vocal major at The Frank Sinatra School of The Arts in Astoria, NY. Following graduation, I was accepted into the prestigious Berklee College of Music but ultimately decided to stay local due to the 2020 pandemic. It was during this time of isolation that I began posting TikTok as well. I would post covers and original music on the platform, gaining thousands of followers every day. Two years later, I’m now a full-time content creator!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being the first generation oldest daughter of immigrants, I grew up having to carve my own path in life without any guidance. When it came to music school applications and auditions, it was my responsibility to apply at a young age. Once I got into high school, I began noticing this even more. I felt like an outsider due to students being predominantly white and privileged. Once I graduated, I felt disconnected with my heritage and stopped speaking Spanish altogether. However, I’m so grateful for social media as it has allowed me to be comfortable and share my Latin heritage through my Spanish-English music and content.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a female Latina singer, songwriter and content creator, I’m very proud of how I’ve managed to build my brand online, specifically on Tiktok. By making my songs and content in Spanish and English, I’ve been able to cater to two types of audiences and capture the attention of artists like Lizzo, JP Saxe, and Dodie (to name a few). Online, I’m known for singing challenges, my original Spanglish music and covers. One video in particular would launch my music career. I made a video about a song I wrote in Spanish and English called “Estrellas” and it was seen by over 8 million people across all my platforms. From then on, I decided to continue making music in what I deem now to be “Spanglish” and promote myself as a Latin artist, which I’m very proud of. I believe this decision has contributed greatly to my success and I only hope that it will allow me to gain further recognition. Overall, I want the world to know that I’m very proud to be a first-generation daughter of Latin immigrants and that my story is one of many stories. I hope to represent my Latin heritage and tell our stories through my music.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
As a kid, I was also interested and curious in learning new things. From ice skating to Peruvian folkloric dancing, I was always occupied with lessons after school. Even though my parents struggled financially, they would always put my passions and interests at the forefront and for that, I’m forever grateful. Once I got to middle school, I knew my true calling was music and would audition for school musicals, the glee club and open mic nights.
