Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Quinones.
Hi Robert, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started producing back in 2011 when I was in high school. Some friends of mine had a program called FL Studio. I was getting heavy into electronic music at that time and had no idea how people made stuff like that, so once they showed me a program that could do that, I was very interested in trying to make some of my own. I dabbled in it for the first few years, just figuring out how to do anything within the program. After I started figuring things out, I really fell in love with making songs and playing with audio. I kept on making music and eventually came to a point where what I was making had much higher quality than before and I decided to change my alias to Wynde Up. After a few more years of polish, I started landing label signings, making connections and picked up management just this last year. I didn’t think I’d make it this far, but I’m going to keep going and see what happens; I’m excited for it
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was not a smooth road at all; in the very beginning, I was producing music on a netbook laptop; it was an Acer Aspire One, and there were many hardware limitations on the things I would try to do on my music program. I had to learn all kinds of little tricks to be able to make some more complicated songs that wouldn’t otherwise be able to play on the laptop. My 2nd laptop was also a netbook but a little stronger, I don’t remember the model of that one. My current laptop can handle anything I need it to, now. It’s come a long way haha. Since I started, I also had a child, I’m a single parent, and have had to maintain a day job for stability, that I work at full time. Music careers aren’t exactly stable, and having to balance music, work, and being a dad can be challenging. I still feel like I have a long way to go
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a music producer and a DJ. I produce electronic and bass music more than anything else, but I have made beats and pop songs, too. I tend to use real instruments like guitar, strings, horns, etc., in my productions instead of being all synth. One of the things I’m proud of lately is, as it stands currently, I have more than 50 record label releases across 18 different labels and self-releases. It’s taken a while, and I’m still learning new things now. I always have new songs coming out, though, so keep an eye out for those.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
So, I’m actually a little outside the LA area, from a place called Tehachapi, but I commute to LA often for meetings, shows, studio time, etc. I commute for work haha. I like where I’m from because it’s not too bad of a commute to LA, like an hour and a half or so, it’s definitely not a city and is kinda quiet but beautiful. However, there isn’t much to do here, and everything closes pretty early. That’s why I’m in LA a lot
