Rising Stars: Meet Rhyan Besco

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rhyan Besco.

Hi Rhyan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started in a small town called Fort Smith in the state of Arkansas. I started doing music early locally and it led to me growing a following in my hometown and surrounding areas. I started calling my following riverboys, rivergirls, riverpeople, in honor of Arkansas having a lot of rivers that run through it and rivers being everywhere around the world and being something people can connect to.

In 2016 I moved to Los Angles right after high school and started networking around the city. I got to know social media influencers and as a way to make money, I would help them get brand deals. Doing that led to going to a lot of parties and eventually, I was able to network enough to meeting a friend that worked at a label and from there, I was introduced to one of their friends who decided to take a chance on my songwriting skills and started putting me in a lot of songwriting sessions around LA.

Doing that led me to take several meetings with publishing companies and at one of the meetings, I pitched the idea of doing a session with the boyband PrettyMuch whom I met at one of the social media influencer parties, and the production group SomeRandoms whom I met through one of the songwriting sessions from LA. That led to us writing the song “Phases” which now has over 100,000,000 Streams on Spotify!

After that session, I got the attention from Julia Michael’s manager Beka Tischker and she loved my ambition and ability to make that session happen based of networking and no label involvement. Out of all the companies I met with she seemed the best fit due to her understanding of my talent but most importantly, my creativity. From there, I signed to her company “Wide Eyed Entertainment’ in partnership with Pulse Music Group! I started doing more sessions and ended up scoring 3 #1s in Japan for songs that I wrote for Chanmina and AK-69!

Upon signing I started a company to partner with Wide Eyed called “RIverBoy Music Group” and I released my album “48 HOURS IN PORT HUENEME” in 2020 which went on to gain over 500,000 Streams in its first month. Using my networking skills, I was also able to form a partnership with the brand Champion and released my own fashion capsule with them along other things! I recently released a new EP called “THE CHAMPION PACKAGE” that’s available now as well. And I’m continuing to work on songwriting and more music in Los Angeles!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, I was homeless for a year in LA it was very hard and traumatic for a kid out of high school but I was always determined and I knew that a river doesn’t cut through rock because of its strength but because of its persistence. I kept pushing myself and taking sessions and no one knew I was homeless that I was working with until I came out of it before signing.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an Artist/Songwriter.

I specialize in getting my heart broken and writing about it so one of my favorite artists will sing it and it forever be something that the person that broke my heart will hear and think of me every time….toxic I know.

I am known for being the RiverBoy from Arkansas. Writing music, and Champion…I love champion…have you guys shopped their latest collection?….At the champion store on LaBrea in Los Angeles…Check it out!

I am most proud of the people that listen to my music. They are really the most special kinds of people, I love talking with them seeing them accomplish what they want in life. We encourage each other a lot. We really have a unique bond…I love my riverkids…also Champion

What sets me apart from others? 6 Feet.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I see it going in a more independent way. I see companies wanting to partner with more independent artists, I see DSPs treating more independent artists the same and I really want there to be a standard where you have a team in what you do. Because that means so much now in our era.
