Rising Stars: Meet Rasheed Bey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rasheed Bey.

Hi Rasheed, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Pittsburgh PA and before modeling, I was a college basketball player a freak accident ended my career and got into bodybuilding and ended up competing in mens physique and loved the lifestyle. Throughout that, I was always asked if I modeled and little by little, I dipped my toe into this world but it can be very harsh and full of setbacks and things none of us like. But over time and with bodybuilding, I fell back into it full swing and things have progressed a lot to where I am today. I’ve spent a lot of time in NYC over the years and made me and unofficial New Yorker lol but LA was always a place I saw myself at some point. Through modeling, I’ve worked in great cities like NYC for fashion week and shoots, as well as Chicago and atl for their fashion week. But do you covid I had setbacks with LA but now I’m full swing. I’ve worked with LA-based brand busy life clothing and a few others as well as designer Solomon Lawrence in talks to collab and some other things like a music video in the greater LA area. LA is a dream and amazing city with opportunities and I’ve had the pleasure to experience a few and now that covid has calmed down, I can head in full swing with this amazing city.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There are plenty of obstacles along the way and still deal with them. I’m used to being an underdog so to speak so nothing I’m not used too. The biggest one for us all in some way or another is covid. We have all dealt with it to some degree and esp in this life it put a lot of things in modeling and acting on hold so it feels great to be back at it. Of course, I’ve dealt with fake agencies or people of influence wanting favors to advance your career or fake promises. It can most certainly be tough mentally but I’ve overcome it and trying to stay focused on myself and moving forward in my career.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a model/ actor more so known for now as a model for sure. I specialize in swimwear, underwear and streetwear fashion. I’ve been on the cover of beyond all magazine, I’ve walked in NYC fashion week, atl fashion week, I’ve been on a Times Square billboard as well and worked on a campaign for the NBA with grungy gentlemen. What sets me apart is also one of the things I’m most proud of and that’s my determination. I’ve made all these accomplishments on my own without a huge agency to help and I’m very proud of that.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
The gym makes me happy and that’s because I love that lifestyle and it’s amazing for my mental health. Also, seeing the human body grow and change is amazing and self-fulfilling. I’m also a huge foodie so a good meal is always great. In my book and my puppy Lucy.
