Rising Stars: Meet Peter Uribe of Norwalk California

Today we’d like to introduce you to Peter Uribe.

Hi Peter, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am Peter. I’m 32 years old. I was born and raised in Norwalk CA. A small city about 20 minutes from Downtown LA. Right now, I work, I play in a band and I am helping raise my beautiful daughter. I consider myself very lucky and blessed. I have been given a second chance to live my life. For the longest time, I wasn’t living, I was just existing. I was just slowly withering alway. I made bad choices. I dealt with the hardships of life by numbing myself. I would run away from my problems and emotions. I was just existing. At my lowest point, I was out in the streets, pan handling. Feeling defeated. But I had a small sliver of hope. It felt impossible to do but in 2018 I got clean and sober. For the first time in a long time, I was able to live my life again. To do the things that I wanted to do. To start a family. To be there for others. And too do what I love to do. Which is writing and preforming music. I play in a band called Zito. I am not a technical player. I can’t play fast or do crazy solos. If anything, I’d say I kinda suck. lol But what I do have, is passion for writing music. It’s what I love to do. It’s a way of communicating, relating and connecting with other people. It can also just be something I just do for fun or do just because something sounds cool. It depends on the music that comes out when I play. I am the guitarist in the band. We have a powerhouse of a drummer named Pepe. And a groovy bass player named Mike. And Zito himself, our band mascot and our drummers dog. But we are still looking for a singer…..I consider myself very lucky. To have something I am passionate about. To have found other people that I can connect with musically. To play in this band. It’s makes me feel like I am part of something. I never imagined that I would be where I am today. To have a normal life. To have a job. To be alive and well. To have my little family. To do what I love. To write music. To play in a band.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been a difficult road. I was addicted to drugs from age 19 to 25. At the time, my life revolved around getting my next fix. In order to not be sick and go into withdrawals.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I currently do uber and Lyft. But since I have recently become a father, I am looking for something more stable. I was raised to work hard. I have a good work ethic. I just want to apply myself to what I really want to do in my life.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
I’m still kinda at the start myself. Making it in the music industry isn’t easy. It requires a lot of hard work, consistency, and dedication. You have to be willing to make sacrifices. And be prepared for when an opportunity comes your way.
