Rising Stars: Meet Patricia Lankford of Upland,Ca

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patricia Lankford.

Hi Patricia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Great question. I can’t tell the whole story but here’s a version of the story. I was homeless and lived in a shelter for women in Los Angeles. I worked as a security officer but had a vision to become a business owner. I decided to reapply for my notary public commission and was granted the opportunity to get my life on a better course. After leaving the shelter I moved into a place and started working and seeking the proper training to be the best state appointed notary that I could be to and for my community. A very kind woman blessed me a car and all of the tools I needed to succeed. The clothing, the mentorship and everything for me to be my best. However she past away and I was devastated. I cried for days. But when I got myself together and I went outside to find the gift she provided me has been totaled out. More pain. So as I searched for a new vehicle the business was on hold. Bills still due I never gave up. I used the city electric car for a minute until I got another car. I continued to struggle but never giving up because I believed in my business. I enjoy serving people and this job was flexible and just for me. Always learning and moving in a positive direction for my future. Pandemic hit and that made things worse. I tried to work but it wasn’t safe. So I continued to educate myself in the business of being a notary. After the pandemic was over I moved to Upland, California. By making the move to the new community that meant more marketing and no business. My car was again damaged on the freeway and I was injured. But I never gave up on the business. Then I got covid. Then I got a blood clot in my lungs almost losing my life. Thank God for children. My children took great care of me. As the healing process was taking place I’m still in the struggle. But I never gave up. Remember it’s a new town no car and recovering from all of this my phone rang every now and then. But I never gave up. My commission was up for renewal and it was delayed for 4 months for reasons we won’t discuss but I didn’t give up and finally got the commission back and started to do the necessary things to generate work for myself. And now I’m working, it’s slow but I manage. I can tell more during the interview

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
