Rising Stars: Meet Patricia Kara

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patricia Kara.

Hi Patricia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started out modeling at 16 in my hometown of Chicago. The Chicago market was very different at that time. I worked some but kept hearing the same thing over and over again that I was too ethnic looking. Nonetheless, I persisted and one job lead to the next. I built upon those jobs and relationships. I worked internationally before moving to Florida and New York. The move to New York was the best thing I ever did personally and professionally! I learned so much about myself and the business. The NY market was more open to all types. I was working consistently and it opened the door to more acting and hosting. Eventually, I moved on to Los Angeles where I still reside. I have now been working in the entertainment business for over 30 years.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The entertainment business is a rollercoaster ride. There are ups and your downs, twists and turns. You learn to roll with it. With this business, there is a lot of rejection. You can’t take it personally. Sometimes it doesn’t have anything to do with you. There are so many factors that go into the decision-making process on casting. I have learned to just keep moving forward and stay focused. Persistence and dedication are key. And learn to trust your instincts!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have always worked in the entertainment business modeling, hosting and acting. I am most known for working as Model #9 on Deal or No Deal since 2005. I’m the only model that has worked on all three versions of the show. In addition to my own pursuits, I provide career consultations to help other professionals in the entertainment industry.

I’m also very excited to announce my book, “Dream On Now Deliver” is coming out later this year. It is a comprehensive guide to help navigate all aspects of the entertainment business along with some personal stories. For updates on the book and more go to www.PatriciaKara.com.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I think that the entertainment industry is all about understanding and managing risk. Entertainment is all or nothing and every time you try to involve yourself in a project, there is high potential for failure. The successes are what everyone talks about, and those are what make you keep trying, but overall, if you can’t handle risk, then entertainment is going to be a very rough profession. I have been in the entertainment space a long time, and I know how difficult it can be, but I have always felt that if you are willing to work hard enough for something and give it your all, you have to look past the risk and push toward all the things you can achieve.
