Rising Stars: Meet Paige P

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paige P.

Hi Paige, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a singer-songwriter, born and raised in Las Vegas, NV. Since I can remember, music has been my biggest dream and greatest passion. I’ve been writing songs since I was a little girl, though obviously those songs are much different than the ones I would write today. Growing up, I was in musicals and always performing at any chance I got.

During high school, music was always at the forefront of my mind, but school and volleyball were also a huge priority for me. I was lucky enough to have a video of my singing go viral in 2016; I was singing Halo while doing my makeup. My best friend recorded it and tweeted it with the caption “She’s not even trying,” and within days, the video racked up millions of views on various social media platforms. That experience was really cool and gave me a nice following on Instagram, which I’ve carried on through the years.

I graduated magna cum laude this past May with a Bachelors degree in Communication from Cal Lutheran University after only three years, since I wanted to graduate quickly then get on to chasing my dreams. For the past several years, I’ve worked with Pat Thrall, who is based in Las Vegas, on several songs, many of which are available on streaming platforms. I met Pat when I was in high school and had no idea who I was as an artist or songwriter, and he has been a mentor for me for many years now.

I released my latest song, “Every Time,” on December 4th, and it’s my first collaboration with AJ Smets. We met a few months ago and quickly became great friends and developed really good chemistry through the process of writing the song. He’s extremely talented and I am super grateful that we got the chance to meet and collaborate. We are both really excited to see what else we come up with together!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Discovering who I am as an artist has definitely been the biggest struggle for me, but it has come with more time and self-growth. Although I thought I was mature at 18 years old, I look back on the songs I used to write and laugh because they are so different than anything I would write now. I needed to go through a lot of different experiences and relationships in order to really learn who I am as a person and how that would translate into my artistry and songwriting. There used to be a certain level of insecurity and fear in sharing my ideas and music, but that’s been wiped away and replaced with sheer excitement and eagerness to grow and share who I am. I think it will only go up from here, and I can’t wait for more people to hear and see what I can do.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My latest song “Every Time” came after two days of writing and recording and is the first song I’ve written with someone else. Up until a couple of months ago, I had only ever written alone, which was my comfort zone. Collaboration in the songwriting process is definitely a more vulnerable experience, but AJ and I immediately clicked and the music flowed easily from there. When he first played me the guitar riff for the song and his initial lyric and melody ideas for the first verse, I was immediately so excited to start working on it with him. We developed the “storyline” for the song and everything just came to us. This is definitely one of my absolute favorite songs I have been able to release and I really hope it’s able to reach a wide audience. It’s a super fun, light-hearted song and definitely an easy listen.

Some of my other songs have more serious undertones, like “A Little’s Enough,” which I wrote the day after the Las Vegas shooting that took place on Oct. 1, 2017. I was lucky enough to be able to perform it for the families of the victims this past October at a sunrise remembrance for the third anniversary. I felt lucky because I was able to help honor the victims, but I was also able to perform for a live crowd, which not a lot of artists have been able to do this year during the pandemic.

I think now more than ever, I can say that I know myself as a person, and even more so, as an artist, so I am really excited to see that translate into my music and for everyone to get to see it. I have a lot of people to thank for that and I hope I make them all proud.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Keep going. It’s definitely hard when you share your art and it’s not heard by the amount of people that you dream of, but nothing worth fighting for is ever easy, which I am constantly reminding myself. Everyday I see myself getting better and better, and I just know that all the work and pushing is preparing me for when the time comes.
