Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Sprague.
Olivia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Born and raised in Melbourne, Australia. My mum is a dancer herself and still currently teaches ballet, so I was brought into the world the second I could. Have been dancing my whole life, also went into singing, and then at 8, I did my first audition for acting. It was predestination, with Ethan Hawke, and I played the younger version of Sarah Snook. I Fell in love with acting, and it has been my passion ever since, but I also love musical theatre and everything dance and singing-related. I’ve done a number of shorts, web series, and small parts in features. In my last year of high school, my parents helped me by applying for the green card lottery, and we won! The end of that year, we came over to the US, and I’ve lived in LA ever since. That was in December 2022. I moved to pursue my career in acting but have loved exploring the millions of opportunities there are out here, they don’t call it the land of opportunity for nothing. In my first month of living here, I audition for a dancer role at Universal Studios and landed the gig, still work there now. I also did a Christmas singing gig there over the holiday season, in Whoville. Have been training out here in acting and dance and have met so many incredible people who know so many other people. Such a big but small network. I’ve done a few short films since being here, one of them being “Miss Mary Mack” by Taytum Blake, where I met Hunter Torr :). I also got the opportunity to be a part of my friend’s song “DAWG” by Croy Tan (and myself), we created a music video for that as well. It’s so fun finding your feet as a growing person living out here alone, my mum and sister now live with me too which has been really nice. In April, I’m doing A Chorus Line with PVPA, and that’ll be my first musical out here as well as my first musical as an adult. I’m super excited!!! Looking forward to what’s to come
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think mentally, it’s been a pretty rocky adventure. Starting off in such a big city alone, not knowing anyone, was definitely tough. I’m very fortunate to have landed my role at universal so early on that I met a bunch of people out here, in saying that I’m a lot younger than them so finding my people has been tough. I’ve definitely matured a lot since being out here, too, and learned a lot about myself. I also moved right as the strike started, so that put me and a lot of people into a setback mentally and literally, but finding people and things to do to keep me occupied that’s related to my passion has kept me going.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an actress, singer, and dancer. I love to perform onstage for people while also creating magic behind a camera. I’m a very big people’s person, ever since I was little and used to perform my character solo as a little grandma, if I didn’t get the crowd to laugh, I get I didn’t do a good job. That’s my favorite thing about performing live is the reaction, the impact, the feelings you make other people feel. I love to know that they are affected positively in some way. I’m most proud of always being true to myself. Always bringing my own personality into everything I do. Not shying away from being myself. To feel successful, the dream is to be you know a well-known actress who has many features and is a fan favorite, but I think the reality to success is being happy in what you do every day and making the most of every little taste you get of that success. Regardless of how big or small the part is
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love how much there is in one city, how big yet small it is. One way you can be in the mountains, the other you’re at the beach, how you think you’re so alone and have such a small circle, yet the circle could know so many others and everyone’s going through the same thing. I think in saying that, you can feel super alone, though. It can feel super intimidating, but keeping in mind that everyone’s in the same place and wanting the same thing.
