Rising Stars: Meet Nick Medina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Medina.

Hi Nick, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Growing up, I never really sat down and just watched a movie but rather always analyzed it. I was always curious on how movies were shot, which was weird since I was only like seven but I didn’t really think much about it until now. It all makes sense. By middle school, I was getting into editing. It was a fun hobby of mine just creating random videos from gaming to skits and adding my creativity to it, it was a way to pass time. That continued until just two years ago when I decided to buy my first camera a Canon Rebel T7i, it wasn’t the best but it got the job done and taught me so much. One day I woke up and decided to shoot music videos, so I reached out to a friend of mine that makes music and just went for it. It was a fun experience but I wasn’t fully sure if that’s what I wanted. So I shot a few videos (about seven) and stopped for about nine months. One day I decided to pick up the camera again and give it another try. This time had been watching music videos and always studying them. After shooting a few videos, I had actually enjoyed the craft this time, next thing you know, I’m working with Remble, girlzluhdev, ambjaay and more.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey is never smooth. The most difficult things that’s gotten in my way is always trying to stay creative and making my own style of videos. Like everyone else I get creators blocked and always need a week or two to refresh. It took me a year to create my own style, it wasn’t until I started working with remble that my creativity really came out (No competition, Ted Talk and touchable by remble)

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I consider myself a Film director / Video creator. I shoot music videos and bring both my vision and the artist’s vision to life. From shooting to editing and directing, I’d like to say I specialize more in Directing, I really enjoy bringing my vision to life and just watching the final project once it’s done. My biggest achievement is making a name for myself in such a small amount of time, especially as a video creator. I’ve had the opportunity to see artists go from nobody to somebody (Remble) and be a part of the process to working with labels.

What I feel sets me apart is my style of videos. I’m always trying something new and trying to make each video stand out. Everyday, every video is a new learning experience that I try to improve on.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
My favorite part about Long Beach is all that hidden talent out here. Everyone is so genuine and outgoing. The city life out here is just a vibe, the weather, you can’t go wrong with it.

Long Beach often gets overlooked especially the artists. I feel people don’t give us a chance just because it’s not LA or a major city. There’s talent here in long beach and a lot of amazing ones that I feel will never get a shot just because the city.
