Rising Stars: Meet Neelima Narayanan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Neelima Narayanan.

Neelima, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I been making jewelry forever but mostly started for myself, but then I got a lot of inquiries about the pieces that I wore. It started with commission-based work but slowly things started to pick up and now I have a small home studio and showroom based at my house in mount Washington. It still is very much a passion project and I try to dedicate one day a week to devote to my practice.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I feel nothing is smooth road! The best ideas come from struggles. It is where you lean the most. My biggest struggle is time management and dedicating time to scale up. I want to be a part of the creative process as much as possible but it does require a lot of time, to organize, and find resources and to sit down and make. I feel with anything, everything should be done with balance including welcoming any challenges that may come.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have a jewelry practice because I always love working on projects that require working with my hands. In my day-to-day job, I am mostly on the computer. So it is a nice break to change it up creatively. I am known for my handmade quality that looks unique. I usually never make more than one design again so when people leave with a piece it becomes truly their own.

What are your plans for the future?
For the future, I hope to do more collaborate projects but mostly do more design campaigns. I am working on future project that involves more video which I need to plan. Hopefully, it is a project I can do very soon.
