Today we’d like to introduce you to Nancy Yuan.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I think I’ve always loved small, shiny and pretty things. As a young girl, I would rummage through my mom’s jewelry box, always looking for something new and interesting to catch my eye. I recall as young as six years old trying to put a crystal piece of our chandelier onto my ear as an earring! I also love creating and the joy it brings me in making beautiful creations.
I first started dabbling in jewelry back in 2010 by doing some beading and wire wrapping. Then I stumbled upon a metalsmithing class at a fine arts studio. I eventually started selling fine jewelry at a reputable department store. Simultaneously, working retail, I finished a Gemological course at a local community college.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The struggle for me personally has been to figure out how to shift jewelry design into a full-time gig to make financial sense. To go from hobby to passion meets $.
Learning the craft takes a lot of time, practice, patience and tools too!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Currently, I am a sales associate a luxury retailer. I specialize mostly in client relations and driving sales. However, with the small store I am in, I wear multiple hats. I have a strong sense of operations, attention to detail and provide customer service. My day tends to look a lot like selling while doing many operational tasks.
I’m most proud of the many clients that have become my friends.
What sets me apart from others is that I have a strong sense of left and right brain – I am creative but also highly operational. I find it to be a good balance.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success to me is being able to use your God given talents while getting paid for it.
