Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica.
Hi Monica, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started dancing at the age of 6, when my neighbor who was also my best friend, started taking dance classes and I wanted to join her. My studio was highly competitive. By the time I reached middle school I decided to continue to compete while simultaneously auditioning and attending the Kirov in Washington D.C. a Russian ballet academy. Once hitting high school, I decided to return to public school, still competitively dancing & participate in our varsity cheerleading team. Deciding to graduate high school in three years, I attended Penn State University where I was on the 3x national championship team while attending. Shortly after graduation, I submitted myself to agencies in LA, signed to GTA and moved out west. I’ve now been in Los Angeles for almost 12 years pursuing my dream career.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. When I first arrived to LA, exclusivity wasn’t as much of a thing so my height & size worked against me at times. It never really deterred me, I just learned to dance bigger or allow my presence to feel greater.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
For the last 12 years I’ve been a professional dancer here in LA. I’ve traveled, toured, & worked with some of the biggest names in entertainment I’m grateful for the career I have had thus far, and the multitudes of things I’ve gotten to learn along the way. I’m most proud of my ability to continue to grow and expand within the entertainment industry, as I’m currently branching into creative directing, movement directing, & choreography. I think what sets me a part from others possibly, is my eagerness to always want more from myself. To challenge myself in a magnitude of ways. I continuously try to outdo myself.
What are your plans for the future?
My plans for the future are still wide spread. I’m still looking forward to touring with artist I love, while also expanding into creative directing for artist and/or brands. I just released my first creative visual, and have another on way, just to show myself what I’m truly capable of.
