Today we’d like to introduce you to Mihara India.
Hi Mihara, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a Washington, D.C. native creative who took a leap of faith and have now been living in Los Angeles, CA for the past five years. My acting career began almost ten years ago when a close friend forced me to audition for a local play. I had no formal training as an actor, I only had the “gift” that I knew was ordained by God. I ended up landing the lead role for the play. Although I was nervous as I compared myself to the other well-manicured actors and artists, eventually the “no’s began to turn into yes’s.”
I’ve truly immersed myself in this art and invested in my craft by studying and working hard. Taking that leap of faith has led to major opportunities that otherwise I would not have had if I decided to stay complacent and comfortable. In October 2022, one of my first supporting yet starring roles in a movie was released on Tubi entitled “Adam & Eve”, written/directed by Brian Hooks. I play the character Titi. Additionally, I can be seen playing the character Jai in the TV series, “Double Cross” on the ALLBLK network, written/directed by Christel Gibson. In March 2023, “20 Minutes” a feature film that I had the honor of being the lead in, was released in movie theaters all across Hawaii. The film was written and directed by Tim Chey, writer/director of the film “Freedom” starring Cuba Gooding, Jr. I played the character Shanice.
Today, I am working on writing my first pilot, filming on a new series, releasing my first music project and packaging both myself and my
content as an actress, singer and screenwriter.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As a young teenager, I learned early how to measure the pros versus the cons to a situation. My life has not been laced with a white picket fence or a cozy home with two parents in the household. I was adopted by my grandparents as a baby and grew up in a small country town in Belton, South Carolina. I have had a job since I was 16 to provide for myself. Even though I was certainly angry, hurt and at times questioned God about my life’s circumstances, I always found comfort in playing instruments, singing and acting. Fast-forward to my adult years,
unbeknownst to me, my years of pain equipped me with the emotional range needed to bring characters to life. Therefore, I decided to take a chance on me, and I moved cross-country to Los Angeles, CA with hope and determination.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an actress, singer, musician, and a new screenwriter. I’ve endured many struggles, and the strength that I had to build on, is what sets me apart from others. Yet, these are the same experiences that allow me to be relatable to many. I am the epitome of “dust yourself off and try
again!” I will never give up, no matter what comes my way – faith has taught me that even though I cannot see the end result, maintain
optimistic hopes, pray, never waver, and to always remain strong and courageous.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
First and foremost, all thanks, glory and honor to Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior. All of my gifts come from HIM. I am nothing without him and I’m forever grateful for his blessings in my life.
My family and friends – They have held me down, believed in me, poured into me, prayed for me, inspired me, financially supported me and kept me encouraged on the path to pursuing my dreams.
My late grandmother and brother, Sarah & Lapriz, who are now my angels of protection; in their absence, I’m reminded that life is short and to always remember why I started, stay the course and never give up.
My grandfather – you are my rock – your unwavering love, guidance and strength has saturated my life – I love you, thank you.
