Today we’d like to introduce you to Mickaela Tombrock.
Hi! Thank you for having me! It is such a privilege to share. My backstory could be told many ways and there are many different chapters. Right now I believe I am in a period of my life where I look back a lot. Wondering what choices led me here, right to this moment…
And I believe that I am where I am today as a result of my parent’s making. Meaning, I am what I am because of how I was raised and I am so very grateful for it all.
I was and is still taught that you have to be curious like a child and always observe your surrounding.
That if someone is a bully, try to put on their glasses and see the world from their eyes. Why are they a bully? Where does their pain and insecurity come from? And does that change anything now when I know it?
We are all on this planet together and more then anything I love to observe and capture it. I want to share the beauty I see. The beauty that comes with heartache, the power that comes from love, the unbreakable and yet fragile bond of motherhood and friendship. The beauty of all ways of life and each individual. It’s Epic.
So, I am here to tell my story through you, through my lens, as much as you are telling your story through me. Photography is a language of its own.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Is it ever a smooth road? Or in other words, should it be?
I am afraid like most others to fail. And more often then not, I feel like hiding instead of trying. I can take my sweet time and procrastinate, preferably in bed.
There will be gaps in time where I stay stagnant and leaps of time where creativity overflows. I try not to judge it instead I am aware of it. Because each of those periods are equally as important. Struggles are good. They help shape you.
It’s all a journey in one way or another.
I believe that ups and downs make the road and I also believe that friendships and partners help pave it.
The most important thing is that If you take care of the people in your life and yourself, they will help you back up if the road gets too bumpy. The people around me make me a better friend, wife, sister, daughter, photographer and artist. And for that, I am thankful.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in portrait photography in and around LA but also in Italy and Sweden!
And what sets me apart from others is the way I catch a glimpse of you!
It is me, my lens and you and you are the muse. I see us as equal and each photo-session is an ongoing conversation.
We mood-board together, we find locations together, a wardrobe that represents who you are that day or who you would like to be tomorrow. Then we play and see where life takes us and like all interesting conversations, you don’t know where it ends.
I often street cast people and end up having meaningful conversations that last for life. It’s extraordinary and I love to see the pride that each Muse feels after creating something together.
I personally love all different kinds of portraiture, there is no limit to what we can create!
I adore mothers and mothers to be, so maternity pictures is something I am currently infatuated in.
That I proposed to my husband!
