Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Patrick Lane.
My journey as an actor began in College Station, Texas with an organization called Troupe. After acting for a decade on stage I took a break to learn a bit about finance before making the decision to pursue this craft as a career. I’d love to tell you everything was smooth sailing and silver screen living after that. But my truth at times has meant the obstacle is the way, and I’m a better man for learning how to confront those obstacles with clear eyes and full heart.
The reason I’m getting to do this interview is because I learned the person I am today does not have to define who I become. That and the simple fact that growth can be perpetual if you pursue it daily.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Well, the cool thing about challenges are they can make you stronger. Unfortunately quite a few of the challenges I’ve faced were completely my fault. It’s fun to take ownership of your life though, because it means you can change it. I will tell you one thing. I struggled with alcohol abuse for a few years there to help me feel like I could fit in. It also had the delusional quality about it that made me feel like I could actually make my dreams come true. However, the greatest gift I ever gave myself was getting and staying sober the last few years and being perfectly fine with not always fitting in. Because looking at myself in the mirror and being proud of the man I choose to be everyday, is priceless.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m coming off a Daytime Emmy nomination for my work in Rekindling Christmas and have several movies in post production now. I’ve also just booked my next film that I’m fortunate enough to start shooting in late March. I’ve really enjoyed bouncing from Thrillers, to Rom Coms, to horrors. Playing both the good guy and the not so good guy has been fun!
Be ambitious, be genuine, ask for what you need. Try not to let the uncomfortableness of it all drive you to a dark place, give yourself a hug and say nice job! Let’s keep going. Even as I age, I’m still looking to make new friends and offer value to others in new, fun and exciting ways. That kinetic energy never goes away. Make friends with it. You’re worth it.
