Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Gersch.
Hi Megan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I’ve always had a big passion for both music and art. I grew up in Richmond, VA, and have been going to shows since I was 12 or 13. Throughout high school, I helped out local bands by creating their flyers and promoting their upcoming events. I attended James Madison University, where I studied Media Arts and Design, and Music Industry. In school, I learned how to make websites, sharpen my design skills, and started to dive into the marketing world.
During that period, I also formed a concert booking and promotions company with some classmates. We booked a ton of local and mid-sized shows – our biggest (and most fun) act being Andrew W.K. Out of college, I landed my first real job as a Graphic / Web Designer at Live Nation. Here, I helped create online stores, ticketing sites, and marketing materials for an array of 3000+ music clients.
I moved out to LA in 2012, having never been here before. It was a giant leap of faith, and also one of the best decisions that I have ever made. I served as an Interactive Producer at KCRW Radio for a few years. Some of my key projects there were the radio station’s award-winning website redesign, app redesign, and revamped marketing materials rollout.
I also have been the Creative Director at Spaceland Presents (promoter for The Echo, Echoplex, and Regent Theater), where I’ve had the opportunity to work on shows, music festivals, and concert series, including Desert Daze, Circle V, Cloak & Dagger, Echo Park Rising, and Twilight Concerts at the Santa Monica Pier.
Throughout my entire career, I’d always freelanced on the side. In September 2018, I decided that it was time to take my web design and branding business full-time. It’s been an incredible ride so far! I love working with creative, rebel types that have a big vision for their business. With a strategy-driven approach, I help them stand out from competitors and boost their sales by creating bold branding and web design.
I also have recently started a podcast with one of my best friends, Lauren Tassi. It’s called Your Sparkly Brand, and it’s a branding + marketing-centered show designed to inspire and empower entrepreneurs with the tips, tools, and strategies that they need to build their empires.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been challenging at times. When I moved to LA, I packed as much as I could into my car and left my east coast life behind. I didn’t know anyone here, the geography, where to hang out, etc. It forced me to get out of my comfort zone in a way that I didn’t need to before. It took some time, but eventually, I started meeting people and wound up landing two of the greatest jobs of my career.
I look back on that now, and it’s hard to imagine my life without that move. I feel insanely fortunate that it’s brought me such amazing friends and opportunities. I also have to attribute some of my success to getting visible on social media – specifically Tiktok.
At the beginning of taking my business full-time, it was tough. I was hustling to do anything that I could to get my name out there and win jobs. I had to do a lot of cold outreach, drop my business cards on community bulletin boards, and even reach out to friends – asking them if they knew anyone that might need my services.
Once I started creating Tiktok content, all of that changed. Because I consistently show up with valuable content for my audience, they trust me. It’s an awesome way to showcase your expertise, share your work, bring them along on your journey and let them get to know you on a personal level. Now, the majority of my leads come to me.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My services include done-for-you branding and website design. I love helping businesses boost their sales through unique and eye-catching designs that set them apart from competitors.
I am very passionate about what I do, take great pride in my work, and am very detail-oriented. I go to great lengths to make sure that my clients are happy with the work that they commission. With me, you get a responsive, highly skilled designer that also knows the marketing side of things – which is critical for any business that is trying to increase its revenue and brand awareness.
One of my proudest accomplishments was re-housing Spaceland Presents’ 5+ verticals into a cohesive online presence. As a result, the company experienced a higher level of brand recognition and saw a boost in website users. I managed the marketing team both on strategy and content details as we promoted 1000+ live concerts per year.
What do you think about happiness?
Spending quality time with my husband, my dog, and my friends. They are incredibly supportive of my business journey, and always have the best advice. Going to concerts / seeing live music. I love how music is this amazing thing that brings people together to dance and have fun in a collective experience. I also try to hula hoop whenever I get the chance. It just feels so amazing to move your body in that way.
