Today we’d like to introduce you to Martlet Tattoo. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Opening in 2011 in Los Angeles, The Martlet Tattoo Parlor set out to bring a sort of magic to LA that wasn’t there at the time. We wanted to bring tattooers from around the globe to our fine city so people who wouldn’t normally be exposed to such work would now have a chance to collect something amazing. We traveled for a long time, sometimes barely making rent, to focus on networking and inviting creatives to come work with us so we could truly set ourselves apart from other shops around LA. We’re known for being a place where you can come get something unique. We want people to know that we value exceptional service and aim to offer a unique and friendly experience for clients. From the atmosphere of our shop to the most eclectic art and music, you’re guaranteed an authentic reflection of our dedication to our craft; that’s what sets us apart as a brand.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Things have not always been easy. Lots of change happens when working with creative people, but that forges opportunities that come in forms of progress. We also moved from East Hollywood to Highland Park just as the pandemic started, which made it an especially challenging transition. Since then, we’ve been able to build our community in Highland Park which is a great neighborhood with lots of culture, good eats & drinks, and plenty of things to do!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We specialize in the American Traditional style with each artist bringing their own interpretation and flare. We are deeply inspired by the classics while also bringing a fresh and modern take to the “old school” style. We also recently brought on a fine-line tattoo artist, who is inspiring us all to dabble with some of that technique as well. In addition to taking pride in our art, we also make a huge effort to make our clients feel welcome and safe so they can have a positive experience.
What makes you happy?
We love to see our customers happy! We love to meet new people from our neighborhood, up and down the state, and from all over the country, and more. With our many guests from around the globe, we love being a haven for tattooers to come to enjoy the sights and inspirations of what make The Martlet and Los Angeles so special.
