Rising Stars: Meet Martha Holden of Culver

Today we’d like to introduce you to Martha Holden

Hi Martha, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Creating is the central part of my life. My history dates from Oak Ridge, Tennessee where I was raised.
Adventures took me traveling the world, mostly Europe. Living in England, France for twenty years and several years in Germany. My love of form and color was the reason for completing a bachelor’s from University of Tennessee Knoxville and on to Cranbrook Academy of Art. Arriving in San Pedro, My friends and I were the original Turks inhabiting the defunct Fort McArthur. Having 5,000 square feet to create in allowed me to make sculpture as well as printmaking using my 1964 Mustang as a printing press. I have an Art studio in the West Adams Area where I currently have an exhibition of my work as well as the French artist Humbert Curcuru. Our current show exhibits recent oil paintings and drawings created post covid. I invite you to give me a call at 805-689-0060 and set up a time to view the work. at Cadmium Gallery, 5629 West Adams Boulevard We enjoy what we make and there is a lot of joy and fun in the expression. Humbert Curcuru has paintings listed on his site and my website is www.marthaholden.com

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life is full of ups and downs, surpassing them and moving on is what is interesting

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I paint, draw and occasionally accept commissions

What matters most to you?
What matters is harmony. Harmony is subjective. This question deals more with ones philosophy rather than profession and is not something to take lightly
