Rising Stars: Meet Marinés Adrianza

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marinés Adrianza.

Marinés Adrianza

Hi Marinés, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As the daughter of artists, I grew up immersed in a world of creativity. While I initially pursued studies in psychology and interior design, my true passion had always been painting. After a significant hiatus from art, in 2017, I experienced a powerful reconnection to my artistic roots. Since that pivotal moment, I’ve never looked back, dedicating myself to creating art. My journey has taken me to galleries across the country, where I continue to experiment with materials and explore the possibilities of self-expression through my work.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The most significant obstacles on my path to becoming a full-time artist have been the constraints of time, self-sabotage, and the responsibilities of motherhood. Juggling the demands of family and a career can be challenging, often leaving little time for pursuing my art. Overcoming self-sabotage and finding the confidence to wholeheartedly commit to my creative journey has also been a hurdle to conquer. However, the joys and challenges of motherhood have simultaneously enriched my artistic expression, teaching me to balance my various roles and infuse my art with the depth of experience and emotion that comes with being a mother. These obstacles have been transformative, pushing me to grow as an artist and as an individual.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I consider myself a self-taught multidisciplinary artist.  My work finds inspiration in my passion for macro photography and my studies of human behavior and emotion.  I consider my studio a laboratory for experimenting with different materials and techniques.

My process is very personal and shows an internal world that connects nature and the quotidian with my own subconscious mind.  I use layers of translucent paint mixed with many materials such as oil sticks, watercolors, wax, and graphite to represent visual, psychological or emotional aspects of life.  I’m interested in the gestures and rhythmic spurts of the hand while painting. I believe it’s an inexplicable language that can be experienced and perceived by the viewer.

My work was been shown in galleries across the country. I’ve been most recently featured in the City of Los Angeles Latino Heritage Month Calendar, Create! Magazine, Juniper Rag Magazine, and Women United Art Magazine.

When I’m not involved in the making or contemplation of art, I am teaching and furthering my sensory education in the kitchen or in the wild with my two children in Los Angeles, CA.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was a creative, curious, and wild girl, fortunate to be surrounded by the beauty of nature. My parents made a bold decision to leave the bustling city of Caracas and relocate our family to a small town nestled in the mountains near the sea on the east coast on Venezuela. This change was a revelation for my young spirit. I spent my days exploring the lush forests, running along the beach, and embracing the simple yet profound wonders of rural life. Nature became my teacher, igniting my imagination and nurturing my love for art and adventure. Those formative years in the midst of the mountains and the Caribbean Sea shaped my identity as an artist and instilled in me a lifelong appreciation for the natural world.
