Today we’d like to introduce you to Lyric Ramsey.

Lyric Ramsey

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
How I got started in the TV and Film business has been a spiritual journey. My earliest childhood memories are of consuming great American television, and I knew then that I wanted to be in Hollywood. I remember watching Westerns with my mom, PBS broadcasting, and Disney, thinking, “One day, I’m going to make a great Western movie, produce Sesame Street, or work at Disney.” So, I studied music, film, and dance and earned a Television and Film degree from Howard University. I returned to LA and began the journey to achieving this childhood dream. This was a period during the LA writers’ strike, and a new emerging medium was breaking through the noise: reality TV. That is where I got my first break. From there, I learned many facets of the entertainment business and found a love of editing. It felt like the last line in storytelling, and I saw an absence of black female lesbian voices. This mission has put me in the room, working on shows from Project Runway, Masterchef, Below Deck, Housewives of Atlanta, The Goldbergs, A Black Lady Sketch Show, and Disney. The work is expanding into Producing, Writing, and Directing.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Has the road been smooth? No, but is any road smooth? The road has been beautiful, and I appreciate it even more as I get older. The road has been fate and God. The road has been walking in alignment, trusting the open and closed doors. From my first job, hanging out on Crenshaw Blvd at my hair salon, seeing a film crew producing a reality show, and asking for a job on the spot. And they said yes! That PA job connected me with some inspiring, talented, and amazing people who value my presence and the talents that I bring to the project. But there have been struggles. In the beginning, I felt marginalized and put in a box, and I had to overcome being the “only” in the room.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a visual artist, television and film editor, producer, and writer. I specialize in Editing and am known for bringing style, tone, sensitivity, and captivating storytelling. Many clients and colleagues understand my ear for music, my pulse for culture, and my unique perspective. I’m sincerely proud of all the projects I’ve participated in, but some highlights are Netflix’s Monster: Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Sweet Life: LA, A Black Lady Sketch Show, US OPEN, and Masterchef.
