Rising Stars: Meet Lynette Baker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lynette Baker.

Hi Lynette, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
We started May 1st, 2022 as an item along with my Gumbo I sell at a Pop up I organized… as a sweet treat… I was so surprised that we sold out that day in 3 hours… we had only had seven flavors… then we started doing other pop-ups around town and discovered not everyone likes sweet pickles… so I got in the kitchen and created savory and hot n’spicy pickles and they were winners… since then we have created over (100) flavors than can be purchased…we have a We hit the streets going to all the local salon and barbershops in my car at first… then westarted making money and got the green van we call ‘The Mean Green Pickle Machine’ and just recently we moved into our local mini-mall called Sol Plaza located in Lancaster where we sell flavored pickles and pineapples… Shrimp and Grits… Seafood gumbo and Seafood Bags… Pickles With Attitude is owned by myself and my youngest daughter Breahna and her five years old son, Djoser is the face of the brand… ‘The Pickle Prince… I am also the Mother of The Rapper ‘The Game’… My motto has always been Slow Feet Don’t Eat…

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Thinking that cutting up Pickles and flavoring them is easy is an understatement… It is work… but I always say do what you love and it doesn’t seem like work… we had to figure out how long it takes for the flavors to enhance… usually to 5 days, and which flavors sell faster than others because we have to keep them stocked… it’s a fun business and rewarding to know that our customers are amazed at all the choices they have and the great thing is that we are the only Pickle business in where you can come in Antelope Valley and choose from so many choices and take them home and enjoy them.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I have heart disease… with good and bad days and I don’t let it stop me from growing and promoting the business… what sets us apart is we promote… promote… promote… most businesses fail because lack of promotion… we have tv commercials on cable… advertising in papers that go directly to the homes… business cards… a wrapped van with the business logo all over it… I am known as the Queen of Lancaster because I make my presence known everywhere in town… I am most proud of being able to reinvent myself and start a new business after the pandemic after owning a salon… barbershop and braid shop with more than 30 stylists… barbers… and braiders for over 20 years until the pandemic…

What sets me apart from others is have always just stepped out on faith and never looked back… most people have talent and great ideas and never act on them out of fear… JUST DO IT… #slowfeetdonteat

What were you like growing up?
I have always wanted to be in business… as a 12-year-old, I started a daycare in the summer using my mom’s name while she was at work… And had over 15 kids I was watching in our back playhouse till I got sick one day and didn’t go to work and the doorbell started ringing and my cover was blown… I had over 1,500… I can sew… I make designer blinged-out ink pen sets… my Gumbo is on point and now the pickles… we all have talent… some are just afraid to get out there because of the comfort zone of having a 9 to 5… I worked at the post office for 13 years and created a male exotic business… left that post office job I hated and also had a modeling school in Compton for kids… I can definitely say I did it my way… and I have no regrets.
