Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucas Isiah Brown
Hi Lucas, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Born and raised in Orlando Florida, I was brought up in a quiet suburb with my two brothers and my loving parents, all who helped instill the passion I have for my craft today. I was born to two professional athletes, and my parents really inspired a deep, insistent drive within me that I bring to all of my work as an actor today. I’ve been blessed enough to receive the best of the best when it comes to acting training. In 2022, I graduated from Interlochen Arts Academy – an arts boarding school in Michigan where I majored in acting. Last summer I trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London (RADA,) where I trained classically. I am currently working towards my BFA in acting at Boston University’s School of Theatre, graduating in 2026.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My journey has definitely had its challenges, but I also feel incredibly blessed to live the life I do, so I try not to dwell too much on the negatives. Balancing school, training, rehearsals, and personal life at this stage requires a lot of dedication. I’ve had to sacrifice many experiences that others my age might not even consider. Attending a conservatory-style BFA program is a tremendous privilege, but it demands all of my energy. The commitment to my training often comes first, and while it’s a significant trade-off, it’s one I’m more than willing to make because I’m deeply passionate about my work and I love it so, so much.
One of the biggest struggles has been overcoming imposter syndrome. There have been times when I’ve questioned whether I truly belong in the spaces I enter, particularly as a Black actor in a predominantly white institution. It’s not always easy to feel at home in environments where few people share my background or experiences. However, I’ve learned to find strength in these challenges, using them as fuel to push myself further and to create a space where I can thrive. It’s an ongoing journey of self-belief and persistence, but I’m proud of how far I’ve come.”
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Thank you for the question. As an actor, my work is deeply rooted in classical training, which I consider the foundation of everything I do. My senior year at Interlochen was transformative, largely due to the discipline instilled in me by my movement and clowning teacher, Gulshirin Dubash. Her approach taught me the rigor essential to the craft and helped me define the path I want to follow in my training and the attitude I aim to uphold in my career. I take to heart every lesson I’ve learned from my teachers, past and present, and their insights have significantly shaped how I view my work, the kind of stories I’m drawn to, and how I envision the next stage of my career.
I’m particularly drawn to stories that explore the coexistence of opposites—beauty and ugliness, loneliness and community, right and wrong. There’s a richness in that complexity that I find compelling. Amplifying Black voices and bringing my community’s stories to the forefront is one of my greatest passions. It’s a gift to do that through my art. Additionally, I’m a big believer in radical kindness. To me, the journey of becoming a better actor is inseparable from the journey of becoming a better person. Both are about growth, empathy, and understanding, which are values I hold close.
Any big plans?
My immediate plans involve continuing my training at Boston University, where I’m entering my junior year. This spring, I’m excited to be heading back to London to study classical acting. It’s a fantastic opportunity to deepen my understanding of the craft in a city with such a rich theatrical history.
Right now, though, a significant focus for me is my short film “In Between”, which I wrote and am starring in. The film was produced by Crown Studios, with Amanda Miller directing and Lillian Devlin co-starring—both of whom are talented collaborators and dear friends from my ensemble at BU. This project has truly been a labor of love, and I’m thrilled to see it come to life. It’s a deeply personal story, and I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished in bringing it to the screen.
While I’ve always seen myself primarily as an actor, it’s been incredibly rewarding to perform alongside words that I’ve written, especially when those words are so personal. The experience has taught me so much and revealed talents within myself that I didn’t fully believe in before. *In Between* is set to hit the film festival circuit in 2025, and my hope is that it resonates with audiences, particularly those who might be struggling, just as it helped me when I first wrote it.
