Rising Stars: Meet Lou Serrano of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lou Serrano.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve been a professional entertainer my entire adult life and have specialized as a magician and mentalist for over 20 years. When I first started my career, I performed weekly at restaurants throughout Southern California, refining my craft by approaching tables and entertaining patrons with close-up magic. This experience was invaluable, as it allowed me to develop strong audience engagement skills.

Shortly thereafter, I was invited to perform at the prestigious Magic Castle in Hollywood. The Magic Castle opened numerous doors for me, significantly expanding opportunities to entertain at both private and corporate events.

Over the past decade, I’ve focused primarily on corporate entertainment, offering a wide range of performances from mingling close-up magic at cocktail receptions to delivering my full stage show that blends magic and mentalism.

Today, I’m often featured at conferences nationwide, where clients hire me to kick off their events with high energy or provide a memorable closing experience. Additionally, I regularly perform at trade shows across diverse industries, including computer software, dental products, and many others, helping businesses engage their audience and stand out from competitors. I’m truly fortunate to travel extensively doing what I love.

I’ve had the honor to entertain many celebrities including Johnny Depp, Jennifer Anniston, Reba McEntire, and Steven Tyler (Aerosmith) among many others. After watching my performance, Gene Simmons from the band KISS exclaimed, “This is the best I’ve ever seen!”

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being a solopreneur means I wear many hats. Not only am I the performer on stage delivering engaging presentations, but I also act as my own booking agent, manager, marketing department, and accountant, among other roles.

Initially, the biggest challenge was finding consistent work. However, my lifelong passion for marketing has significantly paid off, allowing me to thrive professionally.

The entertainment industry continuously evolves, especially in how buyers discover and book talent. Adapting to new technologies and staying current with marketing trends has been crucial. Approximately every ten years, I find myself reinventing my marketing strategies to remain effective and relevant. Fortunately, I genuinely enjoy business and marketing, which makes this ongoing evolution both stimulating and rewarding.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in delivering memorable, high-impact entertainment experiences tailored specifically for corporate audiences. My performances uniquely blend sophisticated magic, mind-reading, and interactive mentalism, designed not only to entertain but also to inspire and engage audiences on a deeper level. I’m known for my ability to seamlessly integrate company messaging into my routines, enhancing event themes and reinforcing core messages in a compelling and unforgettable way.

What I’m most proud of is my ability to create genuine connections with diverse audiences, regardless of size or setting. I pride myself on making every event distinct and personalized, ensuring each audience member feels involved and amazed. My background in marketing and my attention to detail set me apart in this industry. I understand both the performance aspect and the strategic business side, allowing me to deliver exceptional results that consistently exceed client expectations

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My very first mentor was a magician named Jonathan Matthews, who currently lives in San Diego, CA, and is now retired from performing. Jonathan was the first person to believe in my abilities and gave me the confidence to become a professional entertainer. When I first met him, I was broke and had no way of paying him for all the help he gave me. He responded by saying, “There will be a time when others will come to you seeking help and advice. All I ask is that you pay it forward.” It’s something I will never forget and still live by today.

Additionally, fellow magicians and mentalists Zach Waldman and Joe Skilton have been instrumental in my success. They are consistently the first people I call whenever I’m faced with challenges, whether artistic or business-related.

I’m also grateful for the numerous loyal clients who repeatedly book me year after year. Knowing they trust me to deliver engaging and exceptional performances for their special guests is incredibly rewarding and meaningful. Some of my clients include some of the biggest corporations in the world, such as Google, Apple, Amazon, eBay, Cisco, GoDaddy, and many others.
