Rising Stars: Meet Liz Borden

Today we’d like to introduce you to Liz Borden.

Hi Liz, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am an actor, musician, singer, songwriter, producer, music manager, photographer and writer. I currently living in Los Angeles and Palm Springs, CA.
I had three movies come out this year. Angel and Path Of The Damned are both now traveling the film festival circuit.

I also co-stared in the movie Matricher Falls. The movie was written and directed by Cherie Kerr, who also stars in the mockumentary. Cherie is one of the founding members of the famous improv group The Groundlings. This movie is the sequel to Cherie Kerr’s movie, The Show Can’t Go On. Matricher Falls is currently in the film festival circuit, winning many awards. In Matricher Falls, I play a disgruntled concession on-stand worker and the movie is hilarious! It will be able to be seen by everyone by the end of 2023… Rumor has it there will be a sequel and I will be in the film as well. The movie Path Of The Damed is a western set in the 1800s where I play a barkeep. A woman that does not like strangers coming into her town! I am also acting in television shows. Check out The Judge Karen Show where I play the defendant, Jody Braunstein.

I really enjoy producing albums for other artists as well. I love being in the studio recording my music or producing someone else’s. And speaking of producing! I produce concerts and events. I have a few concerts in the works but I am very passionate about Producing The Palm Spring Women Jazz Festival and concerts. What a great group of women that started this ten years ago. The Artistic Director Sweet Baby Ja’i and I work really well together and that DIVA can sing! I do many things. Way too many to list but need to be creative at all times.

I am truly known for my music and being a musician. I started playing professionally as a teenager in NYC and Boston and have never stopped except for that thing called covid that took us all down. That slowed down my music. I went online a lot and performed but it wasn’t the same. I don’t think I am influenced by one type of music. I write all types of music but as far as my own, I found this quote a write wrote describing my music. Liz Borden’s music is filled with a melodic feel and a love of vocal harmonies. Add a dose of rock and a punch of attitude and you have Liz Borden songs. Playing cover and original songs, some even crossing the Dixie line.

I think it fits!

I feel strongly about animal rights and I am a strong supporter of animal rescue and adoption. My love for animals has always flowed over into my household…

I am getting inducted into The New England Music Hall Of Fame in Boston on September 30, 2023.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing in my life has ever been smooth! I wish! Hey, I’ve gotten some great songs out of it. I’ve met some really interesting people and I have a lot to put into my acting from life’s experiences.

In music, being in an all-female band in 1980 not so easy. We broke many glass ceilings and bar bottles! We caught the good fight and if we made it easy for other girls, then cool. I have had many girls/women come up to me and tell me about when they saw Lizzie Borden and The Axes play or how we influenced them in music or life and that is a really beautiful thing.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have been playing in clubs since I was a teen. Her first two gigs were at The RAT in Boston and CBGB’s in NYC. Liz played in bands until she formed the band LIZZIE BORDEN & The AXES with Rita Lavacchia. LIZZIE BORDEN & The AXES toured endlessly. Signed with record labels and toured some more. I have won several awards for her music and for music production. I have released nine albums and I continue to play live shows and record. My songs are currently featured in television shows, commercials and movies. I also write songs for many other artists. Growing up in music and in touch with the streets of NYC & Boston I have had plenty to write about from experiences.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorites are from when I was very young. The firsts. My father’s albums and his turntable. He had huge speakers I would be on the floor between them blasting the music in my ears. Hello, the start of hearing loss. He had so many albums and of every genre. My mother was an artist and a model. Extremely beautiful and intelligent. I used to watch her paint and teach art. I remember at ten years old making the neighborhood kids join my band. I loved going to Silverlake, NY and going to the cottage. I loved my Grandparents. I have great memories with them. One of my favorite Lizzie Borden and The Axes memories was I was in line at the grocery store. Very young and the cashier was singing our song, Out Of Touch. I couldn’t believe it. When I got up to the cashier and said hey, that’s my band. They didn’t believe me. That is when we first started and things started happening for us.
